we origionally budgeted 20,000 for a 100 person reception. we are prob going to be at 21,000 with 120 guests. my dad is giving us $6000 and we are fronting the rest of it (eeekkkk). the budget includes everything we are paying for except the honeymoon (which will be at a later date).
i learned to work every connection that you have (friends professional band, photographer family friend, moms bf cousin owns limo company, etc...)
if anyone is looking for a reasonable band or florist, FM me for info :) i found some amazing vendors.

YOu girls are out of your mind. It is one night five hours that goes by in the blink of an eye. Do what is economical. If you care what people think you are nuts! Be classy less is more. You can have a simple wedding with good dinner and a good dj for 20,000 and less. Do not have an extravagant venetian hour most people leave before the wedding ends...just a few quick comments from someone who recently got married..
That's not very nice of you to say. I would imagine that most of us are spending within our means. To say that we are out of our minds is just wrong.

eh everybody has their own budget. i have a smaller budget because i have MASSIVE student loans to pay back and can't afford a bigger one. everyone is in a different situation and if you have the money to spend...go ahead when are you going to have a lavish party all about you like this again?? if you are like me then you work with a small budget. everyone is different.

We wanted it to be around $30k but it is more like $50k...Our estimated numbers were not realistic at all, but there are still ways to save and bring the total cost down before the wedding. I am hoping when all is said and done it will only be around $42...

Re: what do you think your wedding cost? ...
it was originally 30k.... but we are figuring out how much we can afford monthly... we booked everything really far in advance, and divided up th total cost over the number of months until our last payment is due.
so that being said... i added up the numbers and it is 44k right now... this includes everything from the rings, the honeymoon, the e-party, rehearsal dinner, dress and BP gifts.

Our budget is $40,000 for 150 guests attending in June, 2010. This includes our honeymoon. I have a feeling we'll have to up it a tiny bit, but we'll see! (btw, this is outright, no CC, debt, etc).

who are you to tell us what's econimical and what isn't? You don't know our income, budgets, how much family may or may not be helping. If someone wants the veneitan hour and can afford it good for them. I for one have never been to a wedding where there wasn't a line out the door for the venetian table. Yes, you can have a beautiful wedding for 20,000 that doesn't mean you have to.
I will never understand why past brides like to rain on our (meaning engaged and soon- to- be brides) parade.

ITA. If you're a past bride and want to give advice, then do so. BUT it doesn't have to be done in such a rude manner. Besides, this past bride got married at Russos and I KNOW that place is not cheap. It is very pretty, but pricey. How many people did the bride have that she was able to keep it under $20k?

I have not added things up recently I am a little scared to. We are trying to keep it under 30k that is without the HM which we haven't booked yet b/c we have no idea when we are going and where.
How much you spend depends varies from person to person. My parents are contributing some and so are FI's parents but we are paying most of it by ourselves If we had more $$$ I probably would have spent more its a personal choice.

I am having a wedding under 20k but its more because I am unemployed and FH has to do everything. If I were working please believe I would SLURGE. I LOVE DESSERTS and wish I could have a venetian hour. I think its so wrong of you to say someone shouldn't have something because its a waste. This post is almost an insult. My sister is having wedding that is possibly going to be almost triple that but at the end of the day you only get married once and you will have a memorable day regardless if you spend 1k or 100k+ for your wedding.

Hahaha...I was thinking the same thing! Russo's on the Bay is one of the most overpriced RH'S! She didn't keep it under $20,000 unless she had only about 30 guests! I'm sure it's just a fake bride trying to create drama!

Just a random question: If you say you don't care what people think....why didn't you book Roma View instead of Russos??? Roma View would have cost you 50 bucks per head and it's right down the block.

Re: what do you think your wedding cost? ...
We spent a lot on our wedding - more than I ever thought I would. Our hall alone was over 40K and that does not count anything else. However, this was within our means and we paid for it ourselves. If someone else was paying the bill I would have had a less expensive wedding.
If you have the means and won't go into debt you should spend whatever you want to. For some people this is a lifetime dream - for others it is a chance to throw an amazing party for your family and friends (that is what it was for us). You can of course have an amazing party while spending much less but I work hard and so I played by my own rules. I have no regrets about the money we spent. Sure we could have used it for a house or other things but we used it for a special day for us - and, since it was ours to spend, we spent it our way. Life is very short - I try to enjoy now and be happy every day - I didn't spend my last penny on my wedding - nor would I - but I also did not listen to people who thought I was wasting hard earned money because - hell, I earned it, not them.
