What do you wear to a wake?

The father of a friend of ours passed away on Sunday, and we are going to the wake tonight. Being Jewish and never attended a wake, (but I have been to funerals) what do you wear-is it as dressy as a funeral, do I wear black and make husband wear a suit? HELP

you usually wear something nice and in a dark color (I've seen people go in jeans which I think is horrible!)

You don't have to wear black, and I don't think DH needs to wear a suit..but also being Jewish and only having been to a couple of wakes, I may be wrong about the suit thing..

I'm jewish...as long as he looks nice...he can do suit pants, shirt and tie. Or khakis and a polo with sport coat....

I would definitely stick to dark colors, a suit isn't necessary, but dark pants perhaps and a collar shirt.
