Im in school for my masters, but in the meantime, what am I qualified to do? (in either an educational setting or a mental health setting)
This would have been a good thing to find out while I was GETTING my BA, duh

I taught in a day care for a while, but I wasnt qualified to be 'head teacher' bc I didnt have a teaching degree......I wasnt qualified to teach 2 year olds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine holds a BA, and has been working various administrative assistant jobs since graduation. She didn't want to continue her education, but at this point, she has to either go back to school, OR waste her BA that her daddy spend $150,000 on.

They should warn you when you pick Psych as your major that unless you plan on furthing your education it will be the most useless thing that you will ever spend $150,000 on!

Um, it qualifies you to get your masters or PhD in Psych... Sorry! But it's one of those majors that really doesn't lend itself to anything until then. You can get a business certificate and apply it that way though... psych is great in HR, etc.

I am ABD (all but dissertation). I am a few months away from having my PhD in clinical psychology. I have a BA and a MA in psychology as well. The jobs are even limited for me in psychology. Even once I get my phd, I still have another year until I can be licensed. Only then, is the job market completely open to me.

It quallifies you to work at mcdonalds....but I think you can be management at least.
i know it doens't help. But I have to laugh or I'll cry...I'm a drama major...it qualifies me to wait tables, I think.
And then there's FH the engineer who gets a decent playing job at a wall street firm right out of college. *sigh*

My BA in psych qualified me to go directly to graduate school...
you could get a job as a research assistant. I did that over the summer even before i got my degree and there were people at the bachelor's level working there. You could be a mental health worker, I believe.

One of my friends works in a methadone clinic providing drug counseling with her degree. Another friend works with developmentally disabled adults. Many BA degrees don't prepare you for any certain career unless they're specialized in some way or are technical in nature (but then they're usually BS degrees). I got my BA in Psych, even though I didn't want to pursue grad work in it (although I would love to have gone for my MSW) because I truly enjoyed the subject (I probably should have only minored in it.) I got my MBA to further my career - without it I wouldn't have been set up for any career in particular other than human services, which typically doesn't pay well right off the bat.

HOnestly, IMO a BA in psychology is about as useful as a high school diploma... you really need an advanced degree to do anything in psychology... and half the time, even a Master's in worth much unless you want to work in a school. I love the field, but it can be frustrating at times!!

i have a BA in psycchology- at hofstra we had to get a dual certification. i didnt kow what i could do with it- i though i had to go for a phd to get anywhere with psychology...t

I have a BS in Psych. After college, I started off as an Annual Giving Assistant at the Audubon Society in NYC. I moved up quickly to a managerial position and later left to pursue a Masters in El. Ed. I am currently working at Ryder Transportation. So, to answer your question, a Bachelors is a BAchelors. You can do anything you want with it, Psych or not. You just can't be a psychologist.

That's what I was going to say! I went straight from BA in psych into a master's program. While I was doing my MA I worked in a group home doing behavior therapy with mentally retarded adults. You could do casework as someone mentioned, you could do service coordination, assistant research coordinator. There are a ton of MR and MH facilties that you could just send your resume to and see if there's s/t available. Good luck!
