Re: What does everyone think of the charges being dropped against Kobe Bryant?
I am a little disappointed with the whole thing. I don't like him as a basketball player anymore with their recent situation with the Lakers. So I was hoping he would have to sweat it out for a while. But I am also wondering what the truth is? Was it consentual or was she assaulted. She still has to go through with the civil suit she filed, but now I am wondering if she will even have a chance winning that since this trial was dropped? I don't know

I haven't read too much about it (I'm all about Hurricane Frances right now) but my first thought at hearing it was that $$ is involved somehow. Especially after hearing his statement.

She had no chance in hell of winning that case.
Did they have sex? Sure. Was she assualted? Nope.
She is a known crackwhore with tons of personal issues. The defence attorneys would have destroyed her credibility on cross-examination.

I have not been following the case all that closely. When it first happened, I thought there were too many holes in her story for the charge to stick.

I heard that the defense had evidence (DNA from the rape kit) that 'proved that she had sex w/ someone else after Kobe but BEFORE going to authorities. And when she knew she might have to take the stand she backed off and dropped her side. Not sure were I heard this - radio on the ride into work.

Wait, so if you are a 'crackwhore with personal issues' you cannot be assaulted?

Part of me thinks she was paid off but then I think, if she was paid off then she would drop the civil suite as well. It just does not all add up for me.

I think it is about time they dropped the charges. They had sex. Kobe did not rape her. His wife should get a divorce with him though.

I'm wondering too how long after all this she will file for divorce.
the woman had a weak case!

Doesn't matter cause its a moot point. She has absolutely no creditibility because of this and the defence was planning on exposing this bigtime.
Do you guys even know WHY the charges were dropped by the prosecution? Because it was HER DECISION to *NOT* testify in the case? Why do you think she didn't want to testify in her own rape case? Cause she was full of s**t from the start.

I think it must be nice to be a celebrity.

Yeah... it sucks that as a celebrity... people will try to expose and try to suck cash out of you.

Agreed, but my point was more that more and more these days celebrities seem to get 'Get Out of Jail Free' cards.
I agree that her story was shady, but it should have at least gone to trial and he should have been found legitimately not guilty. More credibility for him that way I think.

How can any of us know what happened? The case didn't go to trial, we know little other than that
she went to his room willingly
they had sex
she had sex with other(s)
How do we know he didn't rape her? How do we know she isn't lying?
I feel sorry for whoever is telling the truth here.
BUT..Kobe comes out the biggest loser since we KNOW he cheated on his wife. Everything else is just speculation.

I think its attitudes like this that would make on want to NOT testify. Did you ever see 'accused' with Jodi Foster - it's all about this exact thing - having no one believe that you were raped you have had lots of sex. Oh, and you're a WOMAN having sex - a man would be congratulated.

I don't think you understand exactly whats going on here with thsi case.
First off... let me say I am *definitely* not a Kobe Bryant fan. He is a cocky MF'er that can go to hell for all I care.
With that said... the reason why this didn't go to trial was because THE RAPE VICTIM decided to drop the case herself. The had no case she knows it.
Sure celebrities can get away with murder most of the time. But in this particular case... the fact that this was against Kobe Bryant had nothing to do with him getting off easy. In fact if he wasn't a celebrity... this wouldn't have went to trial PERIOD.

Victims drop cases all the time - would you like to have your character assasinated? They would rip her to threads for not being a saint.

If you started the charges and the trial... and if you were *really* raped or assaulted... IMO you are a bigger idiot for dropping the charges.
You will look bad either way at that point whether you continue or not. By dropping the charges... there is absolutely no gain. At least by going to trial... you can at least chance that justice may be served.
Even my FW said the same thing (and she hates Kobe). This woman had no case whatsoever... and frankly she was just looking for a quick buck IMO.
