With all the things to benifit minorities its about time that the whites were allowed to start their own racist fund and be allowed to get away with it.
What really irks me is that people dont want to be racist and everyone to be on the same level but they allow things like:
Ms. Black America United Negro College Fund Hispanic this or that...
Why cant there be one for EVERYONE? Every race, color, religion included?
BTW - I think affermitive action is crap. People shouldnt get special treatment on basis of their skin type or gender it should be on merit alone.
ONE LOVE!

Re: What does everyone think of this?
Personally, I dont like when scholarships are based on anything aside from academic ability. So that goes for white only, black only or whatever.
But at the same time, if someone is donating their own money, i think they should be able to do whatever they like with it.
But in this particular case, its obvious the 'scholarship' is done solely for media attention. The 'scholarship' is a whooping $250! You cant even buy books for that. The media shouldnt reward these idiots with stories.

I agree. Like the article says:
'We think that if you want to treat someone according to character and how well they achieve academically, then skin color shouldn't really be an option,' he said. 'Many people think that coming from a white background you're automatically privileged, you're automatically rich and your parents pay full tuition. That's just not the case.'

I think if a comment is going to be made about how you feel about something, why not go all out and tell us what you are thinking?!?

Re: What does everyone think of this?
Because I said that's all I really care to say about it right now. I respect other people's rights to make a simple statement about how they feel about something and don't force people to explain themselves. I would appreciate the same respect.

Re: What does everyone think of this?
Honestly..I totally agree with everything KPtoys has said.
I also agree though that scholarships should be given on merit and almost nothing else. I remember trying to get certain scholarships while in hs and literally being turned down and basically told outright it was because of my race. My grades didnt matter, it was the color of my skin which really had a huge effect on me.
I also think that if some groups of people are going to get scholarships because of their race or nationality, than ALL groups should have the same chance.

Re: What does everyone think of this?
I think that affirmative action scholarship money should be based on the student's location, rather than his/her race or ethnicity. For example, a smart kid who grew up in a bad neighborhood and had to attend underfunded, low-quality public schools there would have access to scholarship money. Schools' recruitment programs would also have to make a stronger effort to reach smart, high-potential students who might not have the most impressive grades and SAT scores, thanks to poor schooling in the place where they grew up.
Better yet, I'd like to see more funding for underfunded public schools, so that inequality in education becomes less likely to happen in the first place!
Edited to say: I think the whites-only scholarship thing is unproductive and divisive. It's only contributing to the ugly race relations problem it purports to be challenging.

Thank you. I shouldn't have posted in the first place, but refuse to delete it because I know that would cause more controversy where there isn't any. I'm just a little too tired right now to go into depth on my feelings.

I totally understand..I didnt mean to come off in the wrong way. I just thought that maybe you felt uncomfortable saying what you felt and was almost trying to egg you on to say your opinion. I totally understand!

You didn't. Trust me, I'm the last person to shy away from saying what I think. No egging needed! I just slept like crap on a stick last night and couldn't string together a cogent statement of my thoughts.
