Just curious....mine is finishing up school to be an art teacher, but he also is a filmaker. he does documentaries and stuff and is working on a screenplay.

Sage....FI was working for Spear, leads & Kellog until the buyout by Goldman Sachs....he hated the change after the buyout and left. He is now trading for a small firm until he starts school.
I am sure the next three years will be tons of fun

That's exactly how I feel about it....but I am glad he is doing it. I have to say, even before he was laid off he was miserable....SO STRESSED and not making the money he used to make anyway.....
So in that respect I am glad he is going after something he wants....it just means a few more years of being poor

Yea...those guys in that business were so used to the money rolling in so easily....now its much harder to make a buck and much less stable. That is pretty much why he decided to go to law school.
However I also hope this career path doesn't result in as many bad, stressful days as being a trader. You just never know what to expect. His mood changes with the market.

Yeah, my FH was the same way....and lately it was more bad moods than good.... I think the next couple of years will be hard and stressful, but well worth the effort in the long run....
(at least that's what I keep telling myself)

All these posts on business/law...I TOTALLY agree! My fh is a financial analyst...he was working for an investment bank until he got laid off...now he works for a telephone company in their M&A dept...he is applying to business school but I am BEGGING him to apply to Law School
I am phobic of having our financial security dependant on the market...it makes me so nervous. I just graduated Law School and I think, although the economy has had a HUGE effect on hiring, if you do well in law school you are guaranteed a good paying job...but that is just not true in the business world
Don't worry sage...the three years will pay off! You will freak when you see the starting salary at some of these NYC firms
