I get more vacation time than my DH...my cousin is teaching overseas and I was thinking of going to visit her for a week. DH was ok with it.

That's the thing--I am a state employee and literally have more vaca. time than I know what to do with--DH gets 1 day a month for sick OR vacation! I have weeks more than him a year.

I would be fine with it. He was fine with me going with my two single girlfriends on a cruise last year for a week! So I really would not have a problem with it if he wanted to go away with his friends.

DH travels a lot for his job and is also very busy. If I waited around for him to have 'vacation' time, I would never go anywhere!!

I don't think it's a big deal at all but it's whatever the other is comfortable with.

Dh and I take separate vacations often.

He goes hunting once a year with his friends.
I also have an immediate family that loves to travel, someone is always going somewhere and I tag along a lot, and don't pay for hotels, etc.
I have a brother who is a doctor and gets fully paid vacations for medical conferences last minute- if his wife can't go I will.

Last year I tagged along to Europe- I was dying to go, dh didn't want to so he stayed home.

Next week I am going on a cruise with my mom and grandmother, dh is going to visit family in Florida.

We also take vacations together at least once a year somewhere we've never been, and once a year to his family in Florida.

Wow- that was long........anyway, I get 4 weeks vacation and try to use it up!

DH went away for a weekend once without me. I missed him like crazy but my friends were awesome. Kept me busy.
He only went to Boston. Me, on the other hand, dont know if I would go away without him. He's the best part of the trip!

I, personally, think it's a healthy thing. A little time away never hurt anyone, in fact, a lot of times it can do a lot of good. But JT and I also started our relationship as a long distance one, and then last year, he lived in MA for six months while he finished his degree and I got a job down here, so I guess we are used to being away from eachother. I don't see it as a big deal, but that's what works for us. Every relationship is different.

I'm okay with it. He usually goes away for a long weekend with his friends about once a year. It gives me time to catch up with my friends.

Its fine. I trust my DH If I didn't I wouldn't have married him. but I can admit that I would be jealous Who wouldn't.

My Dad goes to Vegas every oct. With all my uncles (usually 4 or 5 guys)for his birthday. My mom goes to A.C. A lot with my aunts. My dad spends time in Florida cause they have a condo there and Dad is retired. He spends more time there now because of this issues with my Brother who lives in Florida.

although we want to vacation together, we both respect each others alone time with friends, including a mini vaca. we kind of have developed a habit of going to vegas with our own friends. i know people think its weird, but we dont!

Ray likes to go skiing with his friends and I don't mind at all! But it is usually only for 2-3 days at a time. Now if he wanted to go away for 2 weeks with the guys to like Europe or something I would be a little mad/jealous.

we're a pair

so - we wouldn't do it. but that's us. A night or 2 is a different story. A whole vacation would be weird though.

i don't know. business trips is one thing. my aunt comes to ny every summer for about 2 weeks with her kids but no husband. sometimes i think a break is nice. i spent much of my life as an only child and i CAN be alone and i think i could take a vacation alone but at the same time, i loooooove my dh and don't think i could really handle being without him for more than a day. however, i still believe alone time is good for people.

Re: What does everything think about your spouse...

DH went on a couple of big trips alone before we were married - one was to Hong Kong with the rugby team (I think I was invited to this one, but didn't have time or money and I had already been there) and once was on his own to Australia. The Australia bit kind of bothered me, but again didn't have the time or money to go.

DH's dad goes on a week to 2 week walking trip on his own every summer once school lets out and he (DH) mentioned the other day that he might like to go with him. At first I was a little annoyed about him going away for a week without me, but then I realized I could use that time to visit my family without having to drag him along with me. But these are family visits, not necessarily a week of fun with the guys/girls.

Weekends away with friends are fine with me, I do it, he does it...it gives us time with our friends, a break from one another and sometimes gives the other time alone, which is always nice. I'm not sure how I'd feel if he decided to take a trip for week with his friends, though... I don't think either one of us would like it. Actually, when I mentioned visiting my family for two weeks, he said 'Not for 2 weeks!!'

I think it's ok as long as both partners are comfortable with it. We both respect each others time alone/independence. Also, most of our friends are married or don't live around the block, so if and when we would go away without each other, it's more of a bonding time with our friends...:-Vacationing alone is not something we would do all of the time...let's say once a year or something..

Re: What does everything think about your spouse...

I don't think I woud like it for more than 2 days. My parents never did it, so I think that is why I feel the way I do about it.

I also feel that we have such little free time together I would hate to spend it without him. If he wanted us to plan a trip with friends so we could split up and do guy things during the day and meet up at night, I think I would like that.

If he left for a week, I would cry and probably wouldn't sleep well for the first few days. I hate being alone in a house (even in my parents' house where I lived for 28 years)
