I always read about girls doing this?

Do you cross out the stamp before taking it to the post office?

Please clarify for this ignorant bride. TIA!

You can go to your post office and hand cancel your invite - which is date stamp it yourself, so they dont run it thru the machine

Hand cancelling is done with a stamp at the post office. Normally they run it through a machine.

Yup!

You do this so they don't run it through the machine, which might damage the invite.

I know that normally when you receive something in the mail, there is an ink stamp of the date that the post office got the envelope.

Does hand cancelling just mean someone stamps this individually vs running it through the maching?

It's not like I would cross it out with a pen, right????

So clueless!

highly suggest that everyone 'hand cancel' their invites or you might have happen what happened to me.
I waited on the line @ the post office, gave the invites to the lady, and she promised theat she would 'hand cancel' them by the end of the day. I said that I wanted to watch her do it and my FH (at the time) said he didn't want to wait. Long story short, 3 days later they started coming back to my house w/ 'return to sender' across the front of them. The very expensive invites that I had paid for fell apart in the machine that the lady @ that post office promised me she would 'hand cancel in the first place. This happened in Kings Park. Make them do it. We spend so much in postage for invitations to get ruined?

Good Luck All!

Exactly right!!

You don't do it with a pen. Go to the post office, and they'll give you a stamp. Do this the day you're mailing them.
