What does the Maitre'D do?

So one of my friends had a BEAUTIFUL wedding at Westbury Manor (you girls have nooooothing to worry about) and she had candle centerpieces...she took them to the hall a couple days before and showed them how they wanted it set up and she said her Maitre'D did it all...when I called my hall they said I had to organize with someone in my family to do it for me..thank God for my DOC..but what is the purpose of a Maitre'D anyway?

prances around in a tux lookin important and gets a giant cash tip at the end of the reception.

kidding.

Basically they make sure that the restuarant/catering part of the reception is how you and your FH requested.

They also work out any kinks that might have happen at the reception (such as seating arrangements, special food orders for vegetarians or those that are allergic to certain food, etc.) I can go on and on. They pretty much make sure the wedding is going smoothly and they ensure that you and your husband are happy as well as the guests.

your family needs to do it? i cant believe they said that and never heard that before...the maitre'd along with other workers there are the ones who set up your room. The flowers your florist goes there and sets them up. Anything else you have you drop off at the RH a couple of days before or a week before, tell them how you want the tables set up and they take care of everything.

yes that's odd they said you had to find someone to do it..

when I was the bridal attendant at Raphael I was pretty much a maitre d too half the time lol- i pretty much ran around making sure the bride, groom, family and bridal party were happy with drinks and food, oversaw the cocktail hour/dinner, collected the dinner orders, sent the food out from the kitchen, made sure each table was getting the right plates and everyone was fed, helped with the cake cutting, lined everyone up for the ceremony/intros and told them what to do.... set up everything and packed everything up...cut up the remaining cake, set up the dessert trays, packed and wrapped up the top tier to take home, etc etc etc i could go on...

we actually do soo much stuff that most people don't realize LOL

ETA we had the maitre d too- well really two if you count Julie whose family owns the winery because she was always there as well but I helped them out a lot.

that's insane that they said that to you! Just as the other girls said maitre'd does pretty much everything to make sure you're day is as perfect as you planned it!

I would definitly think about your maitre'd tip!

Like I said- kidding.

I worked in a restaurant, the Maitre'd busted his hump all night if we had parties.

well, you should also get a bridal attendant on top of your maitre D ... although my aitre told me to bring my extras (we also want stuff set up on the tables) a couple days before and lable my boxes and he would take care of it for me ... If they arent willing to do anything extra for you, I wouldnt tip him as high
