What does this mean? Kind of upset

What does this mean? Kind of upset

I worked at my old job for about 3 years. I was dating FH the whole time. I got engaged about 3 days before I left there. I was really close with everyone in my dept. I still keep in touch via email and im.

So I was exchanging emails with one person yesterday and asked for his address and said I would be sending invites soon. He responded in 2 seconds and said cool and gave me the info. Then this morning, I get an email saying that he was honored I thought of him but that I don't have to invite him, and we could just get together for lunch sometime before I get married......

What would you think of that?

I mean I would understand if he wasn't able to make it (either for financial or other reasons) but isn't it wierd not to want to be invited?

Just upset, feels like an insult to our friendship in a way. And now I am worried the other people will think like him?

that is strange, but maybe he knows that weddings are expensive and doesnt want you to feel like you 'have' to invite him - maybe he is just being polite

Alot of people said to FH and I (we both work for same company)...

YOu really dont have to invite us, dont feel pressured to

because they know how it is.....so i wouldnt take offense to it.

i also think it could mean (in addition to what others said) that maybe financially he can't afford to go, but if people are invited sometimes they feel obligated to give a gift even if they don't go. some people are like that.

maybe he doesnt want you to feel pressured to invite him just bc you worked together? maybe take him up on the lunch and talk it over with him.

dont jump to conclusions though

Were you planning on inviting people he knows? Like was it just him and maybe he felt like he won't know anyone?

It could be money or maybe he just knows we can only invite so many people.

I agree. He probably is trying to be polite and knows that they are expensie and that you don't need to invite him if you don't have the money or room.

It sounds to me like he didn't want you to feel like you had to invite him. LIke he was trying to be polite. Money could play a factor. Whether or not it does seems likea genuine response.

Or maybe he is secretly in love with you and doesn't want to see you marry someone else

Just wierd because I obviously thought about the space/expense before telling people they were getting invited.

I would be inviting the whole dept plus a few other

Seems to me like he doesn't want to go. Now I don't know if I send the invitation or not?

i'm thinking it's something related to his financial situation....thats a strange one though.

I agree with it being related to financial reasons. Even if person doesn't go, if they are invited they feel they have to give a gift.

i think this might be it. maybe he doesnt have the $$ to give you a gift even if he IS invited.

Opposite with us though- we had people come up to us and ASK TO BE INVITED.... LOL.... Granted it was at happy hour and we were 2 margaritas in!

Maybe he thinks your just inviting him b/c you feel obligated? Let him know it's not an obligation and you would really like him to be there.
