what dog food do you feed your dog? my shih tzu is a little over 1 years old, and she has been on eukanuba puppy and then on iams lamb and rice. she still eats her poop and i was told from a family member that lamb and rice food gives off a smell so they wouldn't eat it. Now she is still eating it, and goes to the bathroom so much more often. Should i change to regular eukanuba dog food or iams dog food? (money is tight)

Re: what dog food?..kinda gross
A dog will eat its own poo for several reasons: 1- they are not getting all of their nutirents and may need vitamins 2- they actually like the smell if the food is not completely digested and mistake it for more food 3- They are ashamed to be near their poo, this is how they may try to dispose of it (especially an indoor-only dog)
According to my vet that smaller dogs are more prone to the poo-eating. There are items you can get OTC to try & stop them from doing it, but they are not guaranteed to work. One thing though, is a papaya enzyme that breaks the food down better, so that it does not appear to be attractive.
When Pyxie was doing this, I changed her food & she stopped.
Good luck

I feed my pups, Canidae dog food, Its a human grade dog food. It helps them move their bowels less and pretty much no odor to their 'poop' at all. And they love to eat the food. They have never had a poop eating problem since I switched!

I switched her from Chicken Soup ...because I found a lot of undigested peas in her poo (and also the toxic scare), now I am feeding her a combination of Beneful Chicken & Blue Buffalo.
You can get Papaya enzyme in a health food store or maybe even a Vitamin store like GNC.

I'm feeding my puppy Wellness dry food and Merrick Puppy Plate wet food. He doesn't totally love it, so we add a little chicken too. I think when we're done with the Puppy period, we're going to switch to Canidae or Blue Buffalo.

you will love the Canidae, it my opinion, it is the best!! It might take a while for your pup to get used to it, but after a few days, he/she should love it. My boys are 8 months and I already have them on it.
