Hello- We are invited to a Sweet 16 at Carlyle on the Green the Sat night after Thanksgiving.
What type of gift would be appropriate for this?
(p.s. We are not close to the Sweet 16'er. It's DH's mom's former neighbors' grandchild......who I've never met, but I'm sure it's going to be a great party. I'm looking forward to it!)

I would put some $$ in a card, esp since you don't know this girl and what her taste/style is. I'm sure she'd appreciate it, and then she can go out and get what she wants.

Wow!! Carlyle on the Green for a Sweet 16..not too shabby!! I would either give $, as its always a good gift OR an AMEX gift certificate for the same denomination.

$50-75 depending on what you can afford. $100 would be very generous, but I don't think that's necessary.
Remember, what is spent on the party shouldn't be a concern as far as the gift. The parents are paying for the party and they won't see any of the $$ from her gifts...

I would think $100. Carlyle on the Green is $155 pp for a Friday night wedding....a saturday night party must be costing them a fortune. Then again, I don't think the same rule applies to Sweet 16s as it does to weddings (pay for your plate)

I would think that's not close the same price you'd pay for a sweet sixteen. More than half the guests cannot legally drink, the food / menu is different, and they are booked not as far in advance.
However, like I said before, the parents are paying and they don't get any of the gifts / money the daughter receives. The price of the party shouldn't be a consideration.

Im not familiar with Carlyle on the Green but in general for a sweet sixteen I would say to definitely give money - i think $100 is appropriate, especially since you dont know the girl well

we went to a Bat- Mitzvah & Carltun on the Park, it was a Sat. night affair, we gave a lot of $$ IMO but Fh said it was what was appropriate $250

My mom and step father just went to a Sweet 16 at the Watermill for a friend's daughter-they gave $100. I would recommend anywhere from $75-$100.

I think I would probably give between $100-$150 depending how I was feeling when I was writing the check out! But anything you decide to give will be very generous...condisering you do not even know her. Have fun!!!
