What happens to the wedding dress after the wedding?

What happens to the wedding dress after the wedding?
It's in a big garment bag in my closet. What do I do with it now?
Do I clean it first, and then get it preserved? What happens when it gets preserved?
Any recommendations for vendors for preservation?

I had mine preserved at Bridal Reflections - they use the Wedding Gown Preservation Co. They clean and preserve it. It came in a beautiful box and looks clean, but I can't take it out of the box to see the whole thing. It is wrapped in a museum cloth and looks really nice. The box has a large window, so I can look at my gown all the time!

Are there places that show the dress after they clean it? And before they pack it in?
Then, clean it super duper air tight, to make sure that it doesn't change color, lock in mold... or let creepy crawlies into it?

I heard that you have to get your dress preserved once every 5-7 years. Moisture will over time set into the dress unless you get it cleaned once in a while. If you don't plan to leep your dress to pass down, you can always think about donating your wedding gown to Charity, there are a couple of them out there for a grea cause.
There is Bridal Garden in Manhattan. The money goes to disadvantage children.
Or you can donate it for breast cancer research at Brides Against Breast Cancer http://bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/

Mine is still sitting in my closet, I HAVE to get it cleaned (the bottom is near black!) and preserved. I know she will probably never wear it, but DD asked me, actually made me promise I would keep it for her. She is so cute!

I dropped it off at the dry cleaner, they clean it and send it away for preservation. It's a 3-month turnaround. Once I get it back, it'll sit in it's dress coffin forever.
