Panetone (pretty much the same thing as fruit cake but the Italian version! blech)

I LOVE Panetone and could not imagine the holidays without it around...if you don't like the one with the dried fruit pieces you could try the Pandoro - which is basically the same just w/o the fruit and you sprinkle powdered sugar on it...there are different versions...ones with chocolate fillings, liquor based fillings or creme fillings...some of them even have a chocolate shell around it...yummmm

i thought it was made with chocolate?

Nope, it's made with golden raisins, I believe. It's really good. Much lighter than fruitcake. It's almost a bread.

Ew! They use pudding as an all encompassing word to describe dessert...it doesn't necessarily have to be pudding (which I think they would call custard)...it gets pretty confusing at times

i have the same problem here in Australia. they have something called sticky date pudding, but it is cake like. i dont get it *shrug*.

speaking of fruit cake, i learned that over here they call it christmas pudding, which was mentioned here and they use it for all wedding cakes. it is a tradition to have fruit cake as your wedding cake. can you imagine fruit cake as your wedding cake? yuck.
