Re: What Hotels are you staying at in Bora Bora / Moorea

We stayed at the Sheraton Moorea Resort & Spa in a garden bungalow.

WARNING: The 'garden bungalow' is a SHARED bungalow - like one big hut with two rooms, sharing a VERYYYY paper thin wall. We could hear word for word what our neighbors were saying and it was BEYOND annoying and upsetting. Since the resort was sold out (all of the resorts out there are not like US hotels with 500 rooms; they have a limited number of total rooms so they usually all sell out very quickly so the chances of them moving you are slim).

That said, the 'superior garden bungalow' at the Sheraton Moorea is a standalone bungalow - meaning it's one hut for one couple. I would HIGHLY suggest you stay in a Superior Garden Bungalow or an Overwater Bungalow at the Sheraton Moorea.

We tried to get moved from our Garden Bungalow for 3 days and finally were upgraded to a very nice Overwater bungalow for our last night - what a HUGE difference! Besides the view, we also had a better bed, better bath products, a nicer iron, etc etc. It made a huge difference on how we felt about being on our honeymoon and you know, wanting privacy, etc.

Ok so I just wrote a book, but I wanted to share my experience so you don't have to go through the same thing!

We also went to Bora Bora and stayed at the Intercontinental Le Moana and LOVED it! The service was honestly the BEST service we've ever experienced in ALL of our travels. We also spent one day at the Intercontinental Thalasso - the new resort - and it's fabulous. The service was better at the Le Moana, but the design of the Thalasso is awesome and the spa was fabulous.

HTH! Have a great time on your honeymoon!!!

I have another question - how much do you have to count for food and drinks per day? (average)

Is it better to get a food plan?
(Breakfast & Dinner or its not worth it?)

Thanks

Gabbie, are you going through a travel agent or are you booking everything yourself? We're also thinking of going to Bora Bora and I normally book our vacations myslef, but I'm wondering if it would be better to go through an agent.

Emily,
I usually book all my vacations & flights through expedia or travelocity but for this I cant find a good deal --- I've looked - about 18k for 2 people --- I dont know where they get their prices from. So I'm working with a TA to see the best deal she can get me.... I actually got her name through this site.
Let me know if you want her inof.

That's like me, I'm always booking through expedia. If you could FM me her info I'd appreciate it. Have you tried Travel Tom or whatever his name is? I see everyone raves about him.

What we did was the half board plan at both resorts. So that included breakfast and dinner at each of the resorts for every day of our stay. We found that the price of the meal plan was considerably LESS than it would have been to pay each day at the resort restaurants for the same exact thing.

That said, breakfast is usually $60-90 per couple everyday. And dinner is at least $150 even if you share an appetizer and have one meal and drink each. It's just expensive. With the meal plan, we didn't have to worry about a huge bill after checkout. Also, even though there are a lot of great restaurants on each island, we liked knowing that if we didn't want to go out, we didn't have to. We did go to Bloody Mary's on Bora Bora and I highly recommend it (the atmosphere is just ok, but the food was fabulous and FRESH!). We didn't feel bad about going out to eat at all and we still felt like we got our money's worth from the meal plans.

We bought lunch by the beach or pool most days, and if we were out at an excursion or something, we'd stop somewhere and get something to eat. Sometimes we were still full from breakfast and didn't really need to have lunch or we would just share something.

HTH!
