What is a trunk show/sample sale like?

I was thinking of going to one today - but I've never been.

I went to a Watters & Watters trunk show- it was pretty much mahem.. BUT we got a GREAT deal on the dresses. They usually reduce the price of the dresses before the line officially comes out.

I went to the Jim Hjelm trunk show at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. What they do is put the designers whole line of dresses on a rack and some places they'll try and push that specific designers dresses. You DO NOT have to try them on if you dont want too.
You also get a discount on the trunk show dresses if you decided to purchase them.

I went to Jim Hjelms trunk show but ended up going with Bill Levkoff desses..

Either way it cant hurt to go, you may find something.

Thanks!

I'm nervous about going and falling in love with a designer dress I can't afford. You buy the dress of the rack as is? Are they in good condition? Sorry for all the questions - I haven't been dress shopping much yet!

There's nothing wrong with going to trunk/sample sales, but you have to go inot it with an open mind. You can't be convinced that you're going to find The Dress or disappointed when you don't. Some sales are much more well oganized and less chaotic than others so just be patient, take your time, and be sure you love it if you're going to buy it because the gowns are not returnable. A lot of times, more at sample sales, the dresses aren't in perfect condition, so don't forget to mentally add the cost of dry cleaning and alterations. And don't get hung up on getting a good deal on a designer dress. It shouldn't matter who makes it, just how you feel in it.
I went to the last Vera Wang sample sale in the city and it was pretty chaotic. We waited almost 4 hours to get in and I didn't find that dresses to be very nice and most of them were in sh*tty condition. I saw so many girls trying to love the dresses they had on just because they were Vera Wang. Don't fall into that trap.

At trunk shows at Bridal shops you dont buy the one off the rack, you order it.

Sample Sales are a bit different, you get what you see on the rack. Just make sure you love it and its in good condition.
