WHAT IS ELEGANT CASUAL?

I received an invitation to an E-party and it says that the attire is elegant caual. Any ideas?

I would think something along the lines of a sweaterset and skirt or black pants or khakis?

I would describe it as something you'd wear out for a nice dinner - skirt, slacks, etc. Not as fancy as a cocktail dress, but something nice.

you don't think a little black dress? isn't that cocktailish? I'm bad with fashion!!

I always say err on the overdressed side...but the Devil Wears Prada says to err on the underdressed side...??

Erica - I think an understated little black dress would be lovely! But I would say thats as fancy as I'd go for 'elegant casual'.

I guess I think sexier when I hear 'cocktail dress' - what do I know

I hate to be the party pooper, but i've never encountered and would never write what people should wear to a wedding. Ive never seen anyone underdressed (well once, but thank God not at my wedding )
I think all this 'dress' talk is just pretty wording on the invite.. lets worry about other things in life. If its a daytime wedding we'll use common sense and not wear an evening ballgown, and if its evening, we probably will wear black and not pastels....
