Re: What is everybody doing for the rehearsal dinner?
We're having our rehearsal dinner at this place called Caffe Riviera in Rockville Centre. My FMIL is paying and she picked the place.
I do have a friend who got married 2 years ago and had her rehearsal dinner at her parents house. It really doesn't matter if you have it in a restaurant or at home. I think the advantages of having it at home is you can invite more people and it will be cheaper than hosting it at a restaurant.
Fortunately for us there will only be 20 people coming to the rehearsal dinner so the $$$ shouldn't be much.
Good luck!

we're doing a barbecue with a carnival theme - complete with a cotton candy machine and a dunk tank!

If there was a dunk tank and my dad was in it there would be no wedding because my FH would be in jail!

We were first going to have our RD at the Brick Cafe in Lynbrook (since my FFIL knows the owner) but since the church is in Brooklyn he decided that it would be better to have it in Brooklyn. Since they live in LI, FI and I have to find a place to have the RD (but FILs are paying for it). We think we are going to have it at Garguilo's in Brooklyn.

Re: What is everybody doing for the rehearsal dinner?
My mother just recently told me that her MIL wanted to have my parents' RD and her house and cook. My mother and grandmother (her MIL) did not get along but my mom was sooo excited becuase her MIL (my grandma) was a FABULOUS cook! I would love to have a party at home but that is my opinion. Each one of us has our own visions of our weddings good luck

There is a nice italian restaurant right near my church. We are going to go there, that way once we are done with theh church we can walk down a couple of feet and eat.

Re: What is everybody doing for the rehearsal dinner?
We're having ours tomorrow night at my in-law's house. This was a big issue b/c we both wanted it at a restaurant & they had told us $$ was no object & that they would do whatever WE wanted. Well, as with everything, they only do what THEY want. So, although they love to entertain & will probably do a wonderful job it's the principle that it's always what THEY want. My FMIL is a 'good' cook but she seriously thinks she's the BEST COOK & she thinks she can do a better job than a restaurant & it's like, uh, I don't think so honey. Let's start with your meatballs.
Originally, she only wanted pickie foods but I was like, 'I would prefer to serve my family & friends dinner, not a whole bunch of pickie foods - people are going to be starving!' She only changed her mind b/c my FSIL agreed with me but if she hadn't, FMIL would have pushed for the pickies, I know it!

Re: What is everybody doing for the rehearsal dinner?
I am not having one!!! I know its not the norm but we are doing it next Thursday night and my girls all live far away and FH is working on Friday so we are just going to the church for a quick run through w/ our parents and then coming back to our house for cake and coffee.
We knew it would be way too much drama if we had one and for me I'd be missing my bridal party so we said forget it. I needed to simplify and everyone is happy with the decision. My in-laws are very sickly and are on strict diets so they were especially happy.
I get to go to my house, throw on a pot of coffee and hang out w/ my family. I can't think of a better way........JMO :)

Re: What is everybody doing for the rehearsal dinner?
We are having ours at Il Miradoro in Port Jefferson...
1. It's a few blocks away from the church 2. Yummy food 3. It was the only place that would take us because no other restaurant wants to give up so much space (25-30 people) on a Saturday night.
All in all, I'm happy with it...there's a great view of the harbor.

Re: What is everybody doing for the rehearsal dinner?
We had ours at my moms house because her house is big enough for everyone. We had it all catered and it was WONDERFUL!!!!. We were originally going to have it at Ruvo in Greenlawn on Thursday night but I really wanted it on Friday. I also would have loved to have it home but my house isn't big enough & I didn't want to have all the work to do. We didn't have a rehearsal since we were getting married at the hall.
We planned on paying for it ourselves but my inlaws ended up giving us a check for enough to cover dinner and a whole lot more. They are the best!!!!!
