What is going On!!!! Vent Time.....
I just wanted to say that today I met with a 3rd and last florist. OMG!!! Is it me or are these people nuts!?! She told me that all the colors and flowers that 'I' wanted where no good, and that I should go with the colors 'She feels' that would go and or compliment me. The entire time I had to bite my tongue after the first 5 minutes, because she kept insisting she 'knew' what I wanted!!!!!! I really wanted to scream! Just an example: Me- White gown...MOH- Blue gown, & BM's- Green, she tells me blue flowers are a no-no and that I have to have peach or purple. Is she nuts...Hello..anyone in there????? My bouquet, well lets just forget that! Those colors were a pastel mix of roses, like 'yellow, orange, red, purple, etc...not... and everything else was the same. To top it off she did not throw anything else in as a n/c, and was $1000.00, over the last florist that i'm definetly going with!! So that's it, just couldn't believe what was going on. Had to get that one off my chest!!! Thanks................

kitkit, I had the same problem with some florists I went to. My bridesmaids are ice blue, and wanted some blue in their bouquets, and they said NO too. They would NOT listen to the flowers I wanted. Hey Im paying them, give me the flowers I want. The florist we went actually listened to what I wanted , and then gave me suggestions from there.

Sorry to hear you're having so many problems with florists. I'm not at that part of planning yet, and I hope I don't come across that. Thanks for the warning. Who did you end up using that actually listened to you??? Thanks in advance!

My florist spent 1 1/2 hours with me at the first meeting. I told her what I wanted and showed her a picture of what I wanted my bouquet to look like. Other than that I told her that I was having a fall themed wedding with lots of reds, oranges and yellows and she took it from there. You need to find someone who is willing to listen to what you want and then give you suggestions based on that. But the final decision is up to you. You are right to be annoyed and not do business with that person.

We are using James Cress. The owner helped us, and he did a wonderful job coordinating flowers. He actually gives u all types/styles of bouquets to hold (round, cascade, etc.) He makes u hold them and walk back and forth. So I decided to go with an arm bouquet of white Calla Lillies.

I`m so glad to hear that... Our wedding isn`t until next year, but that`s who we want to go with. If you don`t mind, are they expensive??? We don`t need any bridesmaid bouquets, just boutineers, reception decorations, ceremony decorations, and my bouquet. Do you think we could stay under $1,000 with that??? Or if you don`t have any idea, just from visiting other florists, how do they compare in price and quality??? Thank you so much!!!

Melissa, Yes they are on the pricey side. But I think you MAY be able to stay under that price. It will depend on the typs of centerpieces you choose. We chose ones that were more flat. First, they are cheaper, and second, your guests can see one another. Im not fond of those high centerpieces. I have been to weddings with them, and they are annoying.

I had the same exact problem with some of the florists I met with! (Except the one I booked) I want a simple bouquet of just Black Magic Roses, hand tied...PERIOD. I love the look of dark red with the white gown and plus, my wedding is in November..the fall..thus, autumn colors! The florists were like...'isn't that going to draw attention away from your gown' or 'you want to use RED!?' or 'I don't know about that'. Sorry, but if you look at all the recent celebrity weddings on the InStyle special, about 1/2 of the brides were carrying the same color roses and they looked fabulous! Whatever!

We don't like the tall ones either. We were interested in the flat ones too! I'm really glad to hear that. Thank you so much!!!

Why cant you just flat out tell her exactly what you want and completely disregard what she says? When I meet with the florist I'm going to use(whoever they may be), I am not even going to give them a chance to comment. They cant tell you no, can they?

If you are talking about the bouquet that Jennie Garth was carrying in INStyle, THAT IS THE EXACT BOUQUET I WANT!!!!!!!!!!! The dark red color is so ridiculously gorgeous, I dont know how any florist in her right mind could tell anyone different.

check out tributes floral company - on the wedding services page. there is a girl w/ a bouquet of roses and light blue flowers. bring this pic to the florist. why can`t you go w/ ivory and light blue roses, with hydrangeas in green? this is YOUR day and you should be able to choose what you want. if they suggest otherwise, just ask them to show you an example of a bouquet with your colors. they should accomadate you, not you accomadating them. i haven`t gotten that far with my planning, but i heard wonderful things about sugar maganolias in stony brook (i think that is where there are located) search the internet for pics. also check out ultimatewedding.com`s bouquet photo gallery.

Tina, I used balck magic roses mixed with leonides roses and berries for my November 2000 wedding. If you like, I can send you a pic. I thought it was perfect, for me. My BM's were in black and carried only black magic roses with berries and a light green filler. Let me know if you are interested in seeing pics to get some ideas.

Flower Colors
I didn't really have a problem with florists telling me what to do. But originally I wanted the bridesmaids to have red flowers in their bouquets. They are wearing red dresses. And both florists told me to stay away from the red because it will just blend into the dress. But then they gave me suggestions of other colors and asked what colors I liked. So that's just a word of advice I think. Ofcourse though, it's your day so pick what you want and don't worry about what anyone says. You definitely want to work with someone who is willing to work with you.

Red flowers
I think florists tend to discourage red because it supposedly looks black in photos. I don`t personally see how that can be determined since I see reds of all kind in photographs all the time but I have heard that a few times. It might just be a fallacy that gets handed down. Just like I was told I had to wear dark lipstick or I`d look washed out in pictures. I had a few make up people tell me that but guess what...I got my proofs and I definitely didn`t look washed out in my Estee Lauder Mocha Pink lipstick. Trust the professionals to an extent but go with your heart on what you really want.

The florist we are now using actually turned out to be a neighbor of my Fi's parents! He is great and is doing whatever we want and just making suggestions and helping out along the way.

I would LOVE to see your flowers. Any way you can post pictures? I love the black magic roses and the girls are wearing a maroon tafetta with a blackish tinge to it. I would carry mostly black magic they would have a beige rose mixed with black magicWelcome New Vendors
