I wanted something with nice grounds, FH wanted the place to be on a golf course. I also don't like the gaudy look, its so not me.

Re: What is one thing.....
I had to have a room with big windows and a view. I was going to weddings and hating the no window thing ...became a pet peeve of mine lol So I only looked at places with windows and views lol

carpet (I wanted wall to wall wood flooring) mirrors chandeliers gold adornment on anything chairs that were cushioned on the upright part (yes I know I'm ) murals patterned tablecloths
yes i had a difficult time finding someplace
i was VERY picky until i saw the dome room at JT - when my FSIL got married there a few years ago i thought JT was nice but totally not my style (or my FHs) my FH and I both like plain, simple, no chandeliers, no marble, plain, plain, plain - more like an old home or mansion type place and we thought JT was too gauty for 'us'....but then when we saw the dome room we decided not to let the rest of place get to us since the party isnt in the lobby but if there were dropped ceilings it would have been a dealbreaker - i can deal with the marble but not with the dropped ceilings totally nuts right!

You're not nuts AT ALL. We like what we like....and hell, if we're going to spending this much money on it, it better be how I like it......I will say I wasn't so hot on the bathrooms in my place at all (and I'm a bathroom nitpicking freak) but after we had looked at sooooo many places, something had to give, so I had to let my bathroom issues go.

Re: What is one thing.....
we didnt want the big RH hall with the cocktail hour room and the big dance floor and valets so we were kind of lost with what to do. and i DID NOT want a tent outside.
then we went wine tasting one day not even thinking about wedding stuff and we drove up to our vineyard and walked inside and i was like this is it! lets get married here! we spoke with someone then and there and she gave us a lot of info and it all just seemed to fit

NO CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS! I don't like overly glitzy rooms - I wanted something kinda woodsy, different. I don't like the mirrored wall and crystal chand. thing that so many LI halls have.
I have an extreme dislike for big crystal chandeliers too. That's prob why we have the same RH!

Re: What is one thing.....
I did NOT want a place with outdated decor....I saw too many like this and was so turned-off by it!
I also did not want my guests to have less than 5 choices for dinner, nor did I want the typical stuff that they get when they go to CH's for events other than weddings.

Re: What is one thing.....
I didn't want something that felt like a traditional wedding hall since I never really wanted a big wedding...i wanted it to feel a little bit more homey and cozy, I stayed away from anything with a lot of mirrors, large chandaliers, and we wanted something that had 1 wedding at a time

Re: What is one thing.....
we're having a small wedding so finding a place with a medium sized room was important. having 75 people in a room that can hold 300 made us feel like it would look too empty. but, a lot of the RHs we looked at tried putting us in their smallest rooms .... which I thought were too small even though they say it can fit 120 people. the hall we picked is the perfect size.
I also wanted a RH that only has 1 event at a time.

Re: What is one thing.....
I needed to have some outdoor space! I didnt want my guests to have to sit in a parking lot if they needed some air! Turns out I was outside a bunch too, It got really hot dancing all night!!!

Re: What is one thing.....
Definitely wanted something elegant with a huge menu. We also wanted something different because we seem to be at the age where EVERYONE we know is getting married and in one year we went to one catering hall for 4 weddings. We also had to have one wedding at a time.
