Just returned from a memorial in Brooklyn for the 14 Police Officers of the NYPD Emergency Services Unit who lost their lives on September 11th. I had the honor of being present as my brother in law who thankfully was off duty at the time is a member of the NYPD ESU. I sat at a picnic table today with three fathers who lost their sons in this terrible terrible tragedy. Lets all be thankful, that we were not among those young, or old like me, future brides, wives, mothers, fathers, children, friends, and whoever I may have left out in my haste, who lost their loved ones on that horrible horrible day. We are sooooooo very very lucky. And let's remember....because we can never ever forget....Thanks for letting me share

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
you are right, it is definitely something to remind us of how fortunate we are. I think about it a lot because I was there that day (not in WTC, but diagonally across from it). I didnt think I was going to make it out of there and I remember thinking that I was not going to get married to my sweetie. So I am especially grateful now, that Im going to be able to do just that.

not sure I want to be a part of this
I am new here. Just read thru the last weeks posts. OUt of 172 people reading this post, only 4 had something to say. I say, shame on you. Get your priorities straight.
I was going to ask about limos and Dj's but that post, set my realty check back a few.

It IS a terrible tragedy. We all feel horrible about what happened, and it has effected everyone in a different way. I dont think you have a right telling people that they need to get their priorities straight.

all i am saying is if you took the time to read the post, you could have taken the time to respond to the girl. She was obviously overcome with emotion and you guys were somewhere in her support system. But most of you read it and passed on to other things. Kudo's to the 4 who responded and probably lifted her heart a bit.

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
did you ever think some brides may have lost someone and don't want to respond? or maybe, people don't know the right thing to say, i mean after all, what DO YOU say about 9/11?? I have cried everytime I have read a newspaper (which is everyday), especially when I see little girls and boys who have no mommy or daddy now. or when i went to Ground zero and saw the thousands of pictures up there, some where pictures of newly married couples (their wedding shots) where they JUST closed on a new home and the wife died, etc. I had a friend who i used to work with die there. She didn't even work in the WTC but was there for a business meeting that morning. Even though she wasn't close to me and I hadn't seen her in 2 years, I felt so awful. My dad also lost a close friend who went there on his day off to help and I see my dad felt it... I am sure we have all cried at one time or another but just because people don't respond, does NOT mean we don't feel in our hearts for what happened! Lighten up, pray for the lost & deceased and don't judge others!

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
thank you, no i never saw it from your point of view. Thanks for listening, and for setting my thoughts in a different direction. I did set out to offend, because I thought a wake up call was needed. Perhaps I hadn't thought it through all the way. But I am still a dissapointed at the response. I wonder what she thinks about the fuss I have caused this evening. Are you out there gracejilly?

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
p.s.-i lost an exboyfriend who i was with for 4 yrs (about to be engaged to) 7 yrs ago to a motorcycle accident. He was speeding on his jap bike and hit a guard rail at 130 mph...he died at 24 yrs old. on the wantaugh pkwy northbound where its that crazy turn (which turns into the northern state), if you pass you'll see a big white cross that says ARAMIS. I have his name tattooed on my leg (did it after he passed away)...i was lucky to find love again and i hope all the people who also lost someone are too. not a day passes i don't think of him but time heals all... god bless

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
Jenn I can relate to your story. I was engaged once before to a man who got very sick & passed away almost 7 years ago. We had been together for 8 years & engaged for 5 of those years. Life has gone on but I will always think of him. The house I live in he bought for us. I have since met a wonderful man 3 years ago & we are getting married 9/13/03.

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
jodi. congrats. i know its hard, i know first hand. i had to go to the morgue with his mom to identify the body and all. my fiance is great. he even comes with me to the grave to say a prayer & leave flowers. July 15th would have been his birthday and July 27th will be 7 yrs hes deceased. Is it strange to say lets consider ourselves lucky? (to find love again)

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
Bernie,
I didn't post to recieve anything back. Was just reflecting on how I sad and spent I felt. It took me until today to start to shake the sadness a little bit away. Saturday definitely brought the intensity of last Sept back in full force. I appreciate what you had to say, as I sort of felt a little disappointed at the response. But tragedy is a personal thing. Grief is a personal thing, and we all do it differently and in our own time. Thanks for the support, and welcome to the board. I am sure that the other brides supported me silently. And my prayers go out to anyone who lost someone they loved on that horrible day. In reality, we all lost something.
Thanks to you all

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
Jenn,
I am not one to go to the cemetary but my FI will take me whenever I want to go.
I always tell my FI that my angel (former fiance) sent him to me because he knew that he would be good to me & take care of me
