Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
I did originally respond to this post because I felt like sharing my feelings about it, but I think that sometimes with a really heavy subject like this, some people just might not know what to say, or feel like because they werent there or didnt lose a loved one, they shouldnt say anything. I dont think that makes anyone wrong for just reading the post and not responding. Everyone handles things differently, so we shouldnt criticize for responding/not responding to the post. But that is jmo...

bernie..
I didn't see you write anything to console anyone...
I did lose someone and took it very hard...so please do not put any shame on me.
there is a saying that sometimes you don't have to say anything, just be there to console...and by reading it we are there for each other...

re:
I lost three very close neighbors, and more than a few acquaintances in the tragic events of September 11. I also lost my father to cancer less than a month later, he was only 54. It was a hard time for my family and I, to say the least, and we are still dealing with the loss. I didn't respond initially, because I didn't know what to say. I come here for wedding advice, as a sort of escape, and I don't feel comfortable discussing very personal issues. I am only posting this because I'm appalled that you would come here, and bash us for not posting a response. September 11 is a day that none of us will ever forget, and many of us have a difficult time discussing what happened. Like Yabbobay said, please don't put any shame on me. If you don't like it here, don't stay, there are many other wedding boards out there.

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
Wow, I was hoping this post didn't go down this route and it did and ya know what basically in the end you didn't need to know anyone who died that day and no matter if it was in the towers, the pentagon or in one of those planes a piece of all of us died that day. I am a very lucky girl my father had a heartattack the night of the 10 and was in Mid Island Hospital under any other circumstance he would have been waiting for a bus to take his ferry to Weehawken with two work friends who died a week or so after from being burnt by jet fuel and also I wasen't at my college in NYC that day because of my father.. never in my wildest dreams would have have thought that I am thanking God for my father having a heart attack but ya know what I am. Yes, every now and then I see people posting about what they consider is a big problem or dilemma and it is nothing but really small stuff and ya know what if they are that hurt by it then they really do need our support because no one should be sweating the small stuff. My wedding which was to be this friday has been postponed for the past few weeks (btw I am the old 070502 but I forgot my PW and made this name) because my fiance is in the Air Force and I choose to soon become an AF wife and things like this happen and I love him and we make do with what we have. I hope everyone can take a piece of 9-11 with them and hold on to it, because the world as we used to know it will never be the same but I feel no one has the right to call anyone out on it because everyone grieves in different ways. I just wanted to ask you ladies if you have the time or extra room for prayers to please remember the many service men and women who are overseas doing there duty to help keep the world a safer place. There are many brides who have had to postpone there weddings, or elope instead and many new moms and dads who are raising there children as single parents b/c there partners are overseas. I personally will never complain about the life I have gotten involved with, that being with the AF but sometimes you can't see hardships people are going thru or just how many people are involved with this war because it isn't safe for those involved. I hope everyone has a very heathly and safe 4 of the july and if anyone is getting married this weekend (I am so jealous.. I have to wait to marry my man!) have a great time and I wish you the best of weather.
Many years of happiness to all the ladies on this board!

so sorry to hear about your postponment. You must be very proud of you FH. I will say a prayer that he keep safe from harm and your wedding day is a soon and as beautiful as it can possibly be.
We will probably postpone our Nov 30th day...but due to immigration delays. I don't think my FH's Visa will be granted in time. It is very heartbreaking, and really hard to plan a wedding without a date.
Best to you......And may we all remember the proud and strong people who are fighting for us.

I really didn't think that Gracejilly's post required any sort of reply. Like she said, she needed to share, and I think that she made a very important point. Just seeing the number of views that this post received shows that many of us read it.
As to asking questions about limos and flowers and stuff like that...well, we are all planning weddings, aren't we? That's why this forum exists-to ask questions like these. Just because I'm trying to find bridesmaid's dresses doesn't mean that I am forgetting the important things in my life!!
Like many people, I was downtown in front of the trade center on that horrible morning. I don't think a day goes by that I don't think about the people who were lost and the families they left behind. I still work down here, can see ground zero from my window. I found that wedding planning has been my bit of sanity. It's helped me to believe that there is a future to be planned and that no matter how hard it is, our lost ones would want us to move on. Never forget, but always forward.
Gracejilly, if you posted in the hopes of supportive responsed, I apologize if you were let down. I am definitely appreciative your words of wisdom.
Happy planning everyone! God bless America!!

Re: What is really important - lets please not forget
whew. Let me say that first.
Then let me say that I will not even dignify 'Bernie's' comment with a response...it was made out of ignorance, and for that, I guess we all must forgive her.
This topic is very heavy...but reading all the responses is making me cry just sitting here. I agree with what everyone has said, and I think the theme of it all is we all grieve in different ways. It's very hard to have loss, and feel other people's pain, and at the same time, try to be happy about planning your wedding. Sept 12, I had an appt at the Thatched Cottage to review stuff and sign the contract, and I went all the way there just to tell them that there was no way I could do anything that day...and for the next 2 or 3 months, I couldn't do anymore wedding planning. It was too hard to be happy...I almost lost by brother. He worked in the Twin Towers, for Cantor Fitzgerald, but luckily he was going in late that morning and wasn't in the building. Not many of his coworkers could say that, so I know we are all lucky. And I knew I wanted to do something for him at my wedding...something to honor the fact that we are lucky to have him there...so I dedicated a song to him and his new finace and made a quick mention of us 'being lucky to have him here today'. I think everyone understood and I feel I let him know at the same time how glad I was that he was there. Everyone has loss and everyone deals with it in a different way. Thank God for this board, and for being in the USA that allows us to continue activities like this without being restricted to what we say or do. Thank God for our servicemen and women who are fighting for us, overtly and covertly, and for their loved ones who keep them strong. Just my 2 cents....
