what is so tough about doing a reading???

what is so tough about doing a reading???

Really. I don't get it. What's the BFD?

You're asked, you say yes, you go to the RD and get a gift, you have a great seat at the wedding and get there a little early, you read two paragraphs out loud and you sit back down knowing that it was an honor to be asked to play a role in your family member's/friend's wedding.

One of FH's first cousins and one of my first cousins both turned us down.

I can't believe that we can't come up with three Catholic people willing to do this.

well... studies show that the most common fear is fear of public speaking. people are more afraid of speaking in public than of death!

do you think they're just scared?

oh sorry to hear that

I love doing readings but nobody ever asks me I think I am the only person that loves to do it

I hope the people we have in mind would do it

Oh I am sorry. We are having people already in the wedding do it. Hey, they are already up there anyway.

I'm sorry to hear that. It may sound like not a big deal to you, but some people are genuinely afraid of public speaking. Even if they are not afriaf, they might just be really uncomfortable at the notion...

That is too bad, but the people you asked probably are nervous. I agree, it's not a big deal to me either, but some people really can't comfortably speak in public. If that's the case, it's for the best that they said no. There must be someone gregarious or charismatic to ask instead, no? Someone who is a bit of a ham would love this.

I came across the same problem. I finally said screw it and asked my priest if I had to have them and he said no that he would do the readings.

I hope everything works out for you though

I only asked one friend so far and she declined also. I understand in a way, but I'm always asked and wouldn't dream of saying no!

BTW, you don't actually have to ask a Catholic. I asked our deacon, because I intend to ask another good friend who is agnostic, and he said it's not a problem.

Its funny you mention this!!!

My cousin said yes to me but she told me shes nervous. She asked me to email her what she has to read ASAP. Then she mentioned at my shower to send it to me. Then she called the other day and asked for it. Then she had my dad call me 3 times and ask for it!!! I finally sent it to her with her RD invitation. I guess she wants to memorize it?????

If we weren't date twins, I'd volunteer to come to your wedding and read!

we had a hard time finding readers too, FSIL and one of FH's aunts said no...but i can't really blame them, I wouldn't want to do a reading either - I'd be too nervous, I hate public speaking.

I'm SURE they're nervous about it. I did a reading last summer for a friend - and I was a communications major, took public speaking classes, went to broadcasting school, have given several speeches, etc - and still the most difficult thing is reading from a script.

Just speaking about something is much easier, but reading something written down word for word can just make people freeze, get lightheaded, sweaty, have difficulty breathing, etc. I didn't realize it until I had to do it at this wedding...now I appreciate the people reading much more haha. Hopefully you can find someone willing to do it - otherwise just have the Priest do them.

My SIL turned me down...I really only offered her because I'm not having her in the wedding party (we're not close) but she is not one to speak in front of people.....not many people are

My FBIL and FSIL asked me to do a reading at their wedding and I said yes because I could never say no to them... However, I was SO nervous and I have an extreme microphone phobia!!
