What is the $$ amount of your registry?

Original post by Jenn04

I am curious to compare notes on this. We are invited 285 people to the wedding but expecting around 200 (many out of state). The bridal shower will be about 65 people. Our registry is around 225 pieces = $7,000. Plus our honeymoon registry is about $1700. Do you think this is good????

We own a home too and have alot of the every day stuff but want to upgrade some things plus added china and a $450 knife set, kitchenaid mixer, etc, etc, etc. I hope we get mostly everything for the shower...but we'll see! There are 65 invited but only are expecting 40.

Also I heard west coasters give gifts for weddings. I hope that is not the case. First of all how are they going to carry a gift on the plane?!

Also my honeymoon registry was created online and contains things such as: massages, candle light dinner on the beach, limo transfers, excursions, etc! I hope that goes over well.

I didn't really go by any of the lists. FH and I just went to a couple of stores and picked out things that we liked, wanted or needed. If your family is more into giving gifts then it doesn't seem like a lot at all.

I never thought about it that way either. When I registered at Macys, they broke it down to me like this:

If you invite 100 people you should have about 200 items on your registry (lots and lots of extras so people have options and no one feels 'stuck' buying you something unfun like potato peelers - if there's a small choice, they're likely to buy you something of their own taste, and that can be dangerous!!).

20 items should be $200 and up (for group gifts and close family)
25 should be around $150 (for joint family gifts, like 2 or 3 cousins)
30 should be around $100
70 should be around $50 (average cost of a shower gift)
60 should be under $50 (because people buy stuff for wishing wells or give you a basket of small stuff for your shower)

Of course, you're inviting 3 times the number of people I am, so you'll have to triple that! That's a lot of price-gun-zapping for you!

great breakdown!

I think it's more about what's on the registry. I can tell you that NOTHING is more frustrating then going to get a bridal gift and having 20-30 pages print off. At that point I'll just give money. Also at most weddings people give money, and gifts are normally smaller think china, picture frames and so on. If you are more into a honeymoon registry then spead the word on that. Maybe the shpwer could be more home things and the wedding gifts could be more honeymoon. Have your bm and wedding party spead the word.
