I am curious to compare notes on this. We are invited 285 people to the wedding but expecting around 200 (many out of state). The bridal shower will be about 65 people. Our registry is around 225 pieces = $7,000. Plus our honeymoon registry is about $1700. Do you think this is good????

I am not sure if we have too much or too little on there. We prefer cash for the reception but not sure how that will pan out (ie many people are from out of state).

Re: What is the $$ amount of your registry?
I never thought about it that way either. When I registered at Macys, they broke it down to me like this:
If you invite 100 people you should have about 200 items on your registry (lots and lots of extras so people have options and no one feels 'stuck' buying you something unfun like potato peelers - if there's a small choice, they're likely to buy you something of their own taste, and that can be dangerous!!).
20 items should be $200 and up (for group gifts and close family) 25 should be around $150 (for joint family gifts, like 2 or 3 cousins) 30 should be around $100 70 should be around $50 (average cost of a shower gift) 60 should be under $50 (because people buy stuff for wishing wells or give you a basket of small stuff for your shower)
Of course, you're inviting 3 times the number of people I am, so you'll have to triple that! That's a lot of price-gun-zapping for you!

I certainly haven't thought about it like that....just looked at the thing on Macy's like DavaDay....I don't know what our total is, but I don't think I'm really going to think about it. We put what we wanted, I don't want to add things just b/c 'we should' so I'm not going to....I think it will work out ok

oh, wow! I never thought about it that way! but I can see why that's a good way to plan it. DH and I just walked around with our scanner scanning anything and everything that we liked! I guess it was more than enough b/c we didn't everything on our registry. Most people give cash for the wedding anyway.

Re: What is the $$ amount of your registry?
Remember that if you invite 300 people to your wedding, 300 people are not going to be invited to your shower and they also are not going to give you a gift off your registry for your wedding. Well at least nobody I know does that. Maybe people that aren't from New York would do that....I don't know.
I'm just going to register for the things we want. If they buy everything off the list, great.....If there is stuff left on it.....that's fine because then I'll go back and buy it at 15% off.

I also never thought of it that way. I haven't even thought about a bridal shower. Not sure if I will have one. This is a second wedding for me, but 15 years later. I am not too concerned about what I would get.

Re: What is the $$ amount of your registry?
I never really thought about it this way but i think it depends on who you are inviting and how your family is with gifts. In my case we are inviting approximatelty 100 women to my shower. I have alot of things on my registries because i know that some people will be spending alot of money.
For example: My parents are getting us our entire fine china which includes place settings, accessories and stemware. My sister and her husband are getting us the entire set of one of our beddings (comforter, pillows so on) and i know she got me other things that are holiday related.
Then one of my aunts bought us our vaccum. It retails for $449.00. I know she got us this because that is what she gave my sister for hers last yr and when i was allowed to check my registry it went missing lol.
This is what i mean when i say depending on who you are inviting. In my case i dont think $7,000 on the registry would be enough because some people will spend alot more then you would think to expect.
I hope this helps you. Good Luck!!!!

Re: What is the $$ amount of your registry?
we registered for EVERYTHING because at BBB you get 10% off your purchases after your wedding - so whatever you didnt get as a wedding gift... was discounted afterwards.

I never even thought about it, I just registered for what I thought I would need, lol...
Same with me my FH and I have lived together for three years and we already own a home (well a large condo). We already have most of the stuff and we figure we will be buying a larger home in the next two years when babies arrive I only put things we really want and need, not just to put them there. There are a lot of things that if you really think about it, you won't use at all For example...are you an avid bread eater...then a breadmaker is great for you. Do you make tortillas often?...then a tortilla maker is great ...etc. etc. I mean really...how often area you going to entertain, especially if you are planning to get pregnant in the next year after wedding We really should be practical I remember going to a bridal shower last month and the bride had a registry of about 20 pages, and I was wondering...knowing her, she will never use these crap anyway. I would have preferred to give her the money I don't want my guests to feel that way.
Anyway, I was under the impression that the bridal registry mostly pertained to the bridal shower anyway. Most people in NY often (more than not) give money. I know that we are putting on our invitations that monetary gifts are preferred . But to each its own...don't knock it because what might work for me, might not work for somebody else. This is just my personal opinion on the whole situation. I hope I did not offend anybody
