A donation
It gave me one less thing to try to stuff into my bag when I went home and it was nice to know that it went to help other people.

Donation
I've got lots of frames, candles, crystal bells...they are all very nice and thoughtful favors, but the donation idea is one that I really like. It's especially touching if the donation is made to a cause that 'hits close to home'. Good luck with whatever you decide!!

Question about Donation
We considered this, and wanted to give a donation in memory of my mother who passed away this past december. I will also be lighting a candle when I get to the alter in front of a picture of her. And, the reverand will be saying something about remembering our loved ones who are no longer with us (several of our guests have lost someone in recent months). So, if we do the donation we thought about writing something like 'in leiu of a traditional wedding favor a donation has been made to _____ in memory of nina's mother'. But, we thought that this might be too depressing in addition to the ceremony stuff and seem more like a funeral. What do you all think?

Someone was going around with a polaroid camera taking pictures of guests and dates and then later on in the wedding the photo was at each table in a frame which the picture fit in perfectly and on the back it had the couples name and date. I thought this was really great. Best favor ever. Most favors I throw out or forget to take home with me.

Question about Donation
Nina i think it is a great idea to remember your mother at your wedding. If it will not make you upset to see the note on the tables then i say that that is a perfect favor. I love the idea of a donation. i will be doing that as well

donation
Nina I too agree with missmmpr, it will be a good way to honor and remember your mother. I don't think it will bring anyone down, If anything I think it will help you and your family feel more like she is there with you.

donation
I am going to look into having my wedding mass dedicated to my mother, who also passed away. I am not sure the church does this for wedding masses. I will also donate the flowers for the wedding, in her memory, to the church for that weekend. I am not making a formal donation in lieu of favors, as I read it was poor etiquette. The reason they gave is that the favor is to thank your guests for their attendance, not to make a donation in their name. I am not explaining it as well as they did, but it did make sense. There are so many ways I can honor my mother on my wedding day (wearing the pearls my father gave her as a wedding gift, lighting a candle in her favorite color on the altar), and I already make donations to the Cancer Society and the Cancer Institute in Buffalo that treated her, that I want my favors to reflect the joy I will feel for all the people who have made the effort to be their there on our day. This is just my opinion.

donation
We are also going to make a donation in the memory of my FH mother who passed away from cancer. In stead of making a donation to the cancer society, we`re planning on making a donation to a small library where his mother volunteered for years. Is anyone else making a donation to a specific place? Or if not, do you think it`s okay? Thanks for the input!

Question about Donation
I think it is a beautiful idea. The only thing I would be a little careful about is how you would word the notice. I could be wrong but I always thought that a favor was supposed to be a gift to the guest in appreciation/memory of their attending the wedding. When a donation is given in lieu of favors do guests expect the donation to be THEIR name so that they don`t feel slighted that they are not getting a physical gift? I personally wouldn`t care in whose name the donation would be made, like I said, i think it is a very touching idea, but I don`t know how other people would feel especially the more traditional ones. Perhaps you can say something like -- In lieu of favors a donation will be made to (BLANK). We haven chosen this charity to honor Nina`s mother`s memory as this foundation was especially dear to her. -- If you phrase it more like this then guests will know you are picking a charity which has importance in some way with your mom and that you are doing it for her but will also feel more involved with the donation as it would then be more like it was on their their behalf.

Our Donation (Do What Makes You Feel Good)
While we did have CDs for our guests, we also did a donation. My husband and I both love animals and wanted to do something in that sense. So we picked a charity and sponsored an animal. That charity made up notecards we gave to our guests (actually used them instead of writing up place cards by printing on the envelopes). The front of the card had the organization`s logo. The back of the card had their mission statement. The inside had the donation message. I personally hate the way 'in lieu of' sounds, especially for a wedding. Instead, the cards were written up saying something like 'In honor of their guests, (names) have made a most generous donation...' Everyone who knows us knows why this particular charity is so meaningful to my husband and I. We did consider making donations to cancer organiztions, but this charity just seemed 'right' for us. Plus, it was something a little different too. There are so many charities or organizations that could use the help, that sometimes the smaller ones are forgotten about and struggle more. I would suggest being creative in doing the donation, even if it`s to a library or some other place. Maybe even a donation to a park for a little garden or something. The ideas are endless.Welcome New Vendors
