What is the best way to pack?

We might be moving soon and wanted to get a headstart but it seems so overwhelming.


I wondering for you ladies that had an easier move HOW DID YOU DO IT. Which room did you start with first. What did you leave to the last minute. That sort of thing.

No, actually I am in the midst of packing so I'm a little cranky.

I would suggest anything that you don't need to pack first... breakables, knick knacks, CDs, DVDs, etc. Best way is to say you will pack a certain number of boxes a day for a few weeks before so it makes it easier. That was what I said I was going to do and I started to and then got lazy....

I am a packing pro and a habitual mover. 11 times over the past 7 years.

I always hated doing the kitchen. So many pots and pans and indivual items that need to be wrapped. I would start their first and just use paper or plastic until you move.

Also, get the wardrobes from the movers. It made moving clothes so much easier.

The wardrobes are a must. You don't even have to take the clothes off the hangers. (Little things like socks and bras I put into suitcases rather than waste a box for them.)

Some other random tips:

Start with all the stuff that you never use - things in the back of closets or in other storage areas. Room by room is the way to go - otherwise it seems chaotic and never-ending.

For wrapping fragile things I use towels and extra sets of sheets b/c bubble wrap gets expensive.

In addition to labeling each box 'kitchen' or 'master bedroom', I also give each box a number. As I'm packing, I write down the box # and a general list of what I'm putting in the box. This way I know what each box contains without having to open them and dig through them to find out.

pack each room totally! Label each box for what room it goes in and NUMBER ALL BOXES and keep a master list. Check them off when loaded ON the truck and check again when brought into the house

Again, unpack room by room.

Just throw everything away and start from scratch!

That's what we pretty much did!!! It worked out great! When we had about a week left we would use a dish and then throw it out

I had no idea to number the boxes and make a master list that makes sense. I thought you just simply put your name on it.

I love the idea of the paper plates and the underwear and like in a suitcase.

What do you do with food? Out in california our escrow is 45 days. so things happen quickly out here and I'd like to get a head start.
