Opus Dei? Are you talking about the one portrayed in The DaVinci Code?
If so, it is an actual sect of the church, but the way that it is portrayed is misleading. Not all of the members torture themselves with the 'cliice'.

It is a fictional novel. It focuses on a Harvard Symbolist who becomes entangled in the deepest darkest secrets of the Catholic Church.
It is a good quick read. It has stirred up quite a controversy about the foundation of the Catholic religion. I think because it presents itself so much as a work of fact people forget that it is a fictional book.

The article I read gave the impression that it was something they all do, but I wanted to research it myself than take the word of an article. I just googled it and found some informative websites. Thanks again for the help!
