What is the difference between eternity, anniversary and wedding bands?
So FH and I were looking at rings yesterday and I started to get confused. I tried on a ring that was round/baguette/round baguette all around and the guy said it was an eternity band. Then I tried on a band that had diamonds half around and the guy said it was an anniversary band. But then I tried on another with diamonds half around and was told it was a wedding band. I knew that the really plain bands were wedding bands.
Which one is which? What do you wear when? I am lost!

You can really wear any ring you want for your wedding band.
Eternity just means the diamonds go all the way around.
The 'names' he gave you are just what they are called but any can be a wedding band.
My band had diamonds just on top because I felt it was more practical & comfortable for me.

Thanks Jen! I was SO confused. I need to find the plain band that goes with my e-ring but no place carries it in stock, they all have to order and then I am obligated to buy it

i had the same questions when we looked - eternity bands are cool (fh wanted me to get one) but i know i would have banged ym hand one too many times...so i opted for a half band of diamonds too!

I don't know what an anniversary band is, but I think these are all names jewelers give to rings to identify them. My question is why do you need to find the matching band for your e-ring? I'm asking this question because when I went shopping for a wedding band, I assumed it had to match my e-ring. But when I tried it on, I didn't like the way it looked on my finger. The jeweler said that wedding bands do not need to match engagement rings, so I got a different wedding band. It looks great by itself and lovely with the e-ring. It was nice to know that I was not limited to the style wedding band that matched my e-ring. Good luck!

My ring is a ribbed band and I have tried on a few different bands with it and I don't like any of them, so I am hoping that the matching ribbed one will look nice. The eternity band I tried on was so nice, but I am not sure I want a diamond band. I will decide after I try on the band that matches my e-ring.
I just wish the names weren't so confusing.
Thanks for the help. Any other opinions or info is still welcome

i personally wouldnt go with the eternity band(diamonds all around)... i use to work at a jewlery store... its good if you plan on your finger staying the same size and not gaining weight from pregnancy(i think they could only stretch it a little)... id go with the diamonds that go acrosss the top half of it...

I was told by a few jewelers that it is becoming more common for people not to match their e-rings with their wedding bands. Now, I don't know if that was just a sales pitch to get me to buy something from them b/c I had the hardest time finding a band to match my e-ring. My e-ring has 1 baguette on either side of the diamond and diamond chips halfway down on both sides & on the front & back of the ring as well. I saw a lot of eternity bands which I thought looked stupid with my ring considering that my diamonds don't go all the way around. I ended up finding the closest match at Fortunoff's. I also think that it is becoming so common for people to wear them on different hands. I know a lot of girls who just pick the band that they liked the best whether it matches or not & then they just wear their e-ring on the other hand.

the difference is marketing. any of the 'eternity' or 'anniversary' rings can be a wedding band.
