Thing to know or find out about a photographer before you book them......

I say find out about the negatives. My photographer let me have them free but most charge extra for them. They make a fortune on the re-prints. But say years down the road you want a few re-prints, better hope they are still in business. I say its worth the extra money to buy them from your photographer.

I'd also ask how many proofs they take; If they use film or digital How long the photog will be at your affair What equipment does he use Does he use an assistant Does he have ability to shoot B&W as well Can you meet your actual photog

I think most important is do you get to choose your photographer and is there one whose work you like best - can you pick that one. Also:
-- How many proofs -- Do you get to keep your negatives -- How many hours of coverage -- does he have backup equipment and a backup photographer for you
