What is the most selfless thing you have ever done?

I was thinking about this the other day but couldn't come up with my most selfless thing because I was thinking too much about how subjective it is ...

Well, if anyone wants to share ...

I didn't actually do it...but when my best friend (you know who she is) was having difficulty conceiving, I told her I'd be a surrogate if it came to that

I'm also building an apt on our house and giving up our privacy and freedom (to a point) so my grandmother can come live with us and actualyl enjoy her life at 78 years old. I'm giving up a good 1/4 of our backyard for it!

Instead of buying each other lots of xmas gits this year, FI an di used the money to donate to our fave charities

It seems selfless, but I actually got a lot a lot more out of it than I thought I would.

I volunteered at a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I also volunteered at a nursing home. Very rewarding..they have no idea that I loved it so much.

I also gave up Yankee tickets once so that DH could take a client. (that was by far the hardest)

I volunteered at a soup kitchen in Philly for a week when I was in college.
We worked in the soup kitchen, helped out at a local salvation army, women's shelter, delivered food, picked up food and donations, all that jazz.

It was a lot better than I thought it would be, and I wanted to do it for a year after I graduated college, but my father forbade me.

And, I became friends with Wendy too

i honestly tried to like it but i really hated it..
a lady threatened to kill me if i didn take her outside for a walk..

all joking though it was painful - i really didnt like it

I volunteered at an animal shelter and at the Guide Dog Foundation in HS and college. Also volunteered for a rape/abuse crisis telephone line.

Also whenever FH and I split a cookie/twinkie/candy, I always give him the bigger piece. Now that is real sacrifice

I agree-giving him the bigger piece of cake is extremely selfless..even more so if it's cheesecake.

I got pinched on the a$$ by old men in wheel chairs- it was a horrifiy experince for me

I offered my Mom my kindey- but it turned out she didn't need it- I would have given to her if it would have made a difference- she was only born with one and it wasn't fuctioning 100%-

she crammed herself into that display case and let someone take a picture of her and then posted it on here so that we could all have hours of happiness every time we see it!!!

I gave half my bonus to my grad assistant, because she needed it more and didn't get any.

But I feel like anything I've done for anyone I know isn't really selfless, because it is in my own personal interest to see them happy. So maybe anonymous donations I have made but haven't seen people enjoy?
