He has been walking around and meowing mournfuly for days.
He sits by his food and doesn't eat it... he is 17+ pounds, he normally likes to eat...
Everytime I go to the kitchen he run in as if I'm going to feed him, but theres food in his bowl and he's not eating it...
He did rip into a pumkin bread that was on our kitchen counter while we were at work...
He is usually clingy but he's even clingier now, and he's being a pain in the @ss, but I can't figure out why...
He doesnt seem to be in pain - he's just not eating and acting strange... but he's trying to eat my food during dinner and jumping into the garbage trying to eat out of it...
We are giving him the same food he has gotten for years - so whats up???

If you think he is acting different, I would make an appt. with the vet just to play it safe.

has he gone to the bathroom? is there blood? is he straining?--he could be constipated or have crystals.
perhaps he has a cut or sore and wants to eat, but it's too painful for him
if he's acting weird and isn't eating, bring him to the vet tomorrow--it's not worth taking the chance!

i agree----male cats are very susceptible to UTIs and if it goes untreated, it could be fatal (though if he's been going to the bathroom, i wouldn't really worry that that's what it is). but definitely go to the vet- you don't want to take the chance.

He has been going to the bathroom - at least pooping because he always makes a big production out of it, and he's not peeing in weird places.... I think I'll call the vet tomorrow....

Go to the vet. It's always best to be safe. I agree, I would find out if he possibly has a UTI. One of my customers came in with their cat a few weeks ago and I told them that he was acting differently-sure enough they went to the vet and he had a UTI. Good luck!

Sounds like a similar problem I had with my cat, it turned out to be an overactive thyroid. He's been on medication for a year now and his behavior and eating habits are back to normal.

Maybe looking for table scraps. It ate the pumpkin bread so he is looking for that since its yummie. He will eat when starving. As long as he poops and pee's he should be good. Give it a week or so!

call your vet. the simplest, silliest things to us can be major symptoms to somebody who knows what they're looking for.
last winter our cat started peeing on the floor in front of the litter box a lot. Just a wierd behavior quirk, right?
Turned out she had a urinary infection. She died of kidney failure in August. I spend a lot of time wondering what would have happened if we'd called the vet earlier.
not to get you all worked up or anything! I could be nothing at all - the point is just that you never know, and it's better to be safe than sorry.
I hope you work it all out and kitty is back to normal soon!

Liza, I would call the vet as well...BUT here's another take that might surprise you, he might know about the baby and be acting out early. Sounds odd, but animals know things sometimes. Hope all is well.
