What is WRONG with people?? (vent)

OK - FH and I were talking about a few guests the other night - ones that we thought were shady and possible no-shows - you know the ones - never sent back rsvp card and got a verbal yes from. So FH talks to a friend of his yesterday who we thought was shady and the guys is a firefighter and scheduled to work the night of our wedding and 'isn't sure' he can get off because he is still working on it - still working on it???? HELLO - this is a wedding that you are supposed to be going to in 10 DAYS and you have been PAID FOR!!!! I told FH that if he doesn't know by tomorrow then he is being told that he can't come because I am not paying for him and his wife if they aren't sure yet - plus - we had a couple drop out two days ago!!! I really dont know what's wrong with people and I really don't feel like re-doing tables for the 20th time!!!! Thanks for listening!!

We have the same verbal agreements from some people and I wonder the same thing.

JMO, but the guy is a firefighter. Depending on the vacation schedule, he may have difficulty because if there are others on vacation, he may not be allowed to take off. I mean, the guys runs into burning building for a living...give him a break.

But if it were anyone else, I would understand.

Fashionhag - not to sound like a b*tch - but I am not going to give him a break. My FH is also a firefighter and he has taken plenty of vacation days for things we had to do - and some he couldn't. This is not a backyard BBQ but my wedding and a lot of money has been paid for him and his wife - if at 10 days before the wedding, you still don't know - you shouldn't have said yes!

Everyone knows you have to pay in advance for the people going to a wedding. If you're unsure, you rsvp no.

hmmmm, I guess that's true. He shouyldn't have said yes if her were't sure he could make it. Question. Has he been unsure the entire time, or just all of a sudden? Could something have come up recently?

My dad and I were talking the other night about..... this. There are about 7 people who still did not tell me yes, or no.

Guess, what...I am making the decision for them. Plus, not to mention...........I am over booked....

They will do me a favor, if they don't show.

My dad says...they won't have a place to sit. That is all.

Yes, I agree- only say yes if you can DEFINITELY come.

My friends boyfriend is like that. He is a nurse. He doesn't want to say no, because he WANTS to come, but he has to be a pain to find out that far in advance if he can take off, so he lets it go till the last minute & then my friend doesn't respond untill the last minute or later b/c he doesn't know if its for 1 or 2.

I am going to do my best to work with them only because I know of this in advance & the friend is VERY close to us- he's how we met.

I just had a long conversation with a relative who's husband won't commit to coming to wedding and we are past our rsvp date. She's pretty sure that he is coming, but I'm counting him as coming for the time being. I've really given up caring at this point in time.

I am not looking forward to dealing with all of this!! LOL. Maybe we should make the RSVP dates TWO months in advance. That way they respond yes and then forget about it! LOL...

tell me about it we are approaching the last week of our rsvp's and missing 30 people i sent a nice little post card reminder, if they are not in by next saturday they are a**ed out! we have too many other people on standby begging to come...

That sucks!

Why did the other couple drop out?

My brother in law is a FDNY FF, and I remember hearing my sister voice the same issues you have... On one hand, I agree you should not respond yes if you really are a maybe... Did this guy send back his RSVP?

On the other hand... I would have a little more patience with this guest as oppossed to your typical M-F 9-5 people. I know from my brother in law... the FDNY picks your vacation weeks way in advance and its seniority based. You never call in sick (as some of us would who need a day off)... I don't know how many years this guy has been on, but younger guys are hestitant to ask for days off and switched because its frowned upon...

I'm not trying to make excuses for him... I'm sure he does want to go, otherwise he would have just said no in the first place

He's not FDNY - he's City of Long Beach so I don't know exactly how it works but like I said - at this point - you need to know. If you look at my first post, he was one of those shady ones who never RSVP'd so when FH called him like 2 days after the RSVP date he said yes.

Well... I hope this indvidual does fix his schedule... Do you know the wife? Would you want her to attend if her husband can't make it?

Well, if he does back out, I hope FH gives him a little guilt trip...

I've met the wife once - so it really wouldn't matter to me if she came - she'd probably be uncomfortable. The other couple that had to drop out a fewdays ago - it's because of the husband's workschedule and i LOVE the wife - i WISH she would still come - she's very sweet and is so excited about the wedding and I am sad she can't come!
