Re: What is your favorite Olympic event to watch?

my favorite is gymnastics but this olympics i am very disappointed. They changed their score system and i dont think its fair, glad the american coach commented on this and said its not fair and doesn't like it. With the new scoring system, you can fall and mess up but still get a higher score than someone who doesnt this to me makes no sense. If you saw it, then you know yesterday the team qualifications, china is in first place. Now if they did the best then fine, but floor exercise the first one messed up every tumble, none were really that great. They fell on uneven bars and messed up on vault. This just doesn't make sense to me. Now with the new system, if you do a routine on a more difficult level but mess up you can still get a higher score than someone who does a routine with a little bit less difficulty but does it well i was really annoyed watching it yesterday

i also love swimming, track, indoors volleyball, even the rowing lol

watching the men with the relay race was great yesterday, especially since everybody was saying they wont win, even right before the race. Especially bc of all the smack being talked before about it

I wanted to post about this but didnt want to sound like a TOTAL dork, glad you did it for me

LOL JK

I agree! I think that they should go back to the old scoring. This is ridiculous! The judges would never award a high score to a simple routine - there is no reason to 'seperate' the scores like they do now!

ETA: ever watch water polo? it is exhausting even to watch!

SO GLAD someone else agrees, well obviously alot of people are upset about this. It just bothers me to see a gymnast who falls or messes up badly can still get a higher score than someone who does well just based on the difficulty of the routine. The difficulty of the routine was always taken into account before. Yes before the highest you can get is a 10 but before in order to get a 10 not only did you have to do it flawless, but the difficulty of your routine had to be a 10 and few gymnasts did 10 routines. So before they even started if their routine was a 9.5 thats the highest they would be able to get and then you start deducting points from the 9.5. Now with the way it is, its so much easier to mess up and still win. I hope this changes and goes back to the old way

no, i havent watched it yet for this olympics but have seen it before. I cant even imagine how hard it is bc i cant even swim hahaha

I agree with you guys! After watching last night, I totally agree with you guys! What was wrong with the old way... like you said, the difficulty WAS there and if you freakin' fell then it was a big important mistake! UGH

and whats up now with the new controversey. They are saying 3 of the chinese womens gymnasts are under the age of 16 which is the minimum age you have to be to compete for gymnastics. It was in the newspapers even before the olympics that quite a few of them are about 11-13 years old and the government made papers for them to compete. It was on again yesterday on the news and they said 3 of them are underage. The olympic committee said they checked their passports and it shows they're of age, but the report was saying the government gave them papers and passports with a false age. Its crazy because I cant believe the committee is allowing this and not looking further into it. The US coach even said yesterday that when they asked the chinese coaches, they just ignore them and dont care to even respond. Meanwhile at another olympics they took away someones gold medal for taking sudafed which was given to her by an olympic doctor, she specifically went to him so this way she can take something that was against the rules

its very aggrevating that they're not dealing with the issue. They are so strict about everything and I would think something like this would be handled immediately
