kiblib I am studying to be a librarian. where do you work? I am currently a page supervisor at PML. I have my masters in school counseling but it was difficult to get a job. I feel though that librarian is actually a good fit for me. I love to read and plan programs and help people.

Re: What is your occupation?

I am an unemployed Law grad - and there are NO jobs in Michigan! Out here no one wants to train so you are over qualified for the lower positions in insurance claims with my degree OR you are underqualified if you haven't had 3-5 years experience. Even law firms don't want paralegals unless they type 70wpm AND have a minimum of 3 years so they don't have to train.

I am still waiting on FH to decide what state he wants to take the bar (he is in his second year of law school but does NOT want to stay here and may not want to go back to NY so I don't want to take the bar twice in 2 years if I don't need to so I will hopefully take one this summer when he makes up his mind!) It is hard since we really only plan on being here only a little longer than 1 year. The two jobs that were offered to me we all agreed weren't right.

----- Response to MRS TC-----

Before you think about changing your career, consider this: Being an HR professional and loving it, is so hit or miss. It depends on the industry you choose and the company you work for.

Prior to ESPN I worked for Deutsche Bank. HR in the finance industry pays really well, but it's boring and uptight. I enjoyed the exposure and the experience, but I LOVE working for ESPN. It's very different when you know and understand what the comany does and the what the product is etc.

I would imagine that HR in advertising is very mundane. That's probably why you feel burnt out. You need a more progressive environment. I think a good industry would be pharmaceuticals (sp?). I have a few colleagues that came/went to/from the pharm industry in an HR capacity. They love it! Phizer has a GREAT HR department and they're huge. Try another industry!
