Noreen, you'll definately get something good for that price. ABSOLUTELYget digital !! Get MiniDV.
We just got the
Sony DCRTRV22 MiniDV Camcorder with 2.5' LCD, Color Viewfinder & Memory Stick Capability . He got it on amazon, for $599.

Hubby did lots of research, he's very particular with getting top notch on his gadgets. (within a decent price range)
The 2 models below this one were also EXCELLENT choices. (This one had a color viewfinder and capability to convert our VHS tapes into digital and a few other features.) It was not much more for this one at the time (there were sales and coupons on that particular day) so for the extra $ he felt it was worth just getting this one.
But
He also strongly suggested the 2 models under this one to a close friend who didnt care for those features and wanted to spend a little less. I think one was $100 less.

Happy Shopping, negotiate and take time to understand what those salespeople are babbling about !

Re: What kind of camcorders do you ladies have??

We have a JVC MiniDV digital camcorder. Not sure what model it is though. FH did lots of research and decided against a Sony because with Sony you need to use Sony products-memory sticks, tapes or whatever. He wanted a camcorder to be able to accept any brand products because Sony tends to be more expensive. We also have a DVD burner on our computer so we transfer everything to DVD and FH can do all sorts of editing stuff on the PC first. I'm definitely no expert on this stuff though.
