What kind of different things are u doing at the wedding that is not usual wedding stuff?
I am looking to see what others are doing besides the typical stuff, I want to do something where my guests will think to themselves, 'wow' that is different and so thoughtful....... ( ihave been raking my mind for months to try to come up with ideas)

I've heard of some couples playing hotpotato, at each table 1 person picks up a knapkin and they pass it around till the music stops. Then the person who just passed it off, or the person holding it, gets to take the centerpiece home

Instead of the boo-k and garter throw, we are having my FIL's wedding song played (two weeks before we get married they will be married 40 years) and have them dance. Then we are playing my parent's wedding song (May of next year they will be married 31 years) and have them dance. Then we are giving each father a garter and each mother a boo-k. It is a surprise for each set of parents. They have no idea that we are going to be doing this.

I wish I can give something to my mom and dad, they both have passed I am walking down the aisle with a tiny wedding pic of them in my bouquet, and also found my moms hanky from her wedding day and the florist is going to put it around my bouquet.

Why don't you have their wedding song played and you and your DH dance to it?

My father couldn't be there because he is ill and lives out of state. He sent my brother a poem he wrote to be read out loud to me at the reception. It was very nice.

The band that we are having is the band that played at my parent's wedding. One guy even played at their wedding and is still in the band! My parents loved their lead singer and he's really old now but the guy who owns the band said he will have the lead singer come back and sing my parents wedding song as a surprise to them!! I'm so excited!

I am afraid I am going to be crying hysterically if they play there wedding song. I am so sick of being sad, I want the day to be happy.

Princess, are you doing a memorial candle in your service? You could also leave two seats empty with a rose on each chair in memory. I read a really nice poem about my grandmother before my bouquet toss. The same poem could apply to parents as well. If you like, FM me and I will send you the poem.

We were thinking of that but the rabbi will not let us do that.

Princess, I completely understand what you are going through....my father (my only parent) passed away 2 yrs ago. I am trying really hard to make my wedding happy and not like a memorial. I am going to have a candle burning in his memory throughout the entire night. I am also having his favorite flower placed in my boquet along with his picture. So its like hes walking me down the isle. Who is walking you down the isle?

The rabbi won't let you light a candle? I didnt think that would be an issue.

He told us we can have a small service in another room before the wedding for immediate family and say the prayer of the dead- 'yiskor' , that is what is done in my religion. Not that I am religious, but I do not want to do the wrong thing. What else can anyone else come up with that is not death related? Thanks a bunch.

* One of my BM sang 'From This Moment On' by Shain Twain.
Computer Labels for Guests' Name on Seating Cards * In this day and age of modern technology, I'd absolutely refuse to hand write all 150 guests' names and table numbers on the seating cards. Our reception provided seating cards and I'd bought Avery labels that are clear and printed their names and table numbers to put on the cards. I'd used a large script font for easy reading which the results were great. It looked meticulously neat, organized and well put together.
Bridal Party Table * I'd designed one table devoted to our entire wedding party which also included their significant others. We had a dais table for ourselves as we wanted to feel like a king and queen for a day. My DH was a best man for his friend's wedding (who this person was then our best man) and I was his fiancé at that wedding as his date; they had a bridal table which also included the bride and groom. However, I'd felt left out as I'd sat somewhere else and lonely although I was his significant other. I didn't want our wedding party who brought their significant others to be left out and not be able to sit with their date. Personally, I hated that idea of our wedding party members to be left out and lonely without their significant others for the night. It's certainly is not the same of having your best man who is married to constantly walk over to his significant other table to talk to her so he'd not left out. It's not the same as having your best man sit next to his date, thus our entire wedding party table sat together including their dates/significant others. We also put both our siblings and Jr. BM, and Jr. GM at this table as it was the most appropriate table to do so. We were happy that our BM was able to sit with his wife and our BM with her date thus, everybody truly enjoyed it more so.
Lithuanian wedding cake DH is half Lithuanian (mother), one of his aunts bought a cake for us as a gift and was generous enough to share it with all 150 guests. We'd tried incorporate our ethnicity backgrounds into our wedding. Thus we had 2 cakes (reception and Lithuanian)
Chinese bridal jewelry I'd wore 2 gold identical bracelets, a moon shaped necklace, and a emerald & silver brooch on my gown. One of DH's aunt said 'wow, I've never seen any bride wear a moon shaped necklace before.'
Six (6) Choice of Entreés: Veal Valentino, Sea Bass Mediterranean, Chicken Boscaiola, Eggplant Parmigiana, Filet Mignon, or Muscovy Duck Chambord. We didn't need to put this on the RSVP card as our guest can tell the waitstaff the day of the wedding. It was great because what if you change your mind and don't feel or don't want fish 2 months from the day you got your invite?
That's ours list of something different.

Chloe and Princess, what size photo are you putting in your bouqets and how? My father passed away a few months ago, and I am trying to think of something nice to do in his memory, but nothing that would make me start balling in tears, which I know will happen anyways!

It is nice in a way, that I am not the only one going thru this. It is so hard to lose a parent, let alone both of them and then plan a wedding without them. My sister and brother in law are giving me away, if she is very pregnant and is uncomfortable then my aunt and uncle. I am going to the florist to see my samples tommorrow night, and to talk to the owner of the size of the picture- I am using there wedding picture, that way we are all walking down together, I am probably going to go to Quicks photo in Bellmore, usually in a situation that u are in they will try to accomadate, I will keep u posted.

Princess do you have anything that you can place on your dress (underneath it), something on your bo-k, wear your mom's jewelry or dad's?
My grandmother from my mom's side hasn't passed away but she won't be coming to the wedding. I want her there in some way and I don't know if in the Jewish religion rosary beads are used, but I am going to ask my grandma if she can send me her rosary beads. I will wrap them around the bottom of my bo-k.
