We had a really bumpy flight home from NY two weeks ago and the more we fly together, the more I realize how much of a white knuckle flyer DH is - and I thought he actually enjoyed the 13 bottles of airplane red wine that he downed.....
Me, I never used to be nervous, but I've found I like it less and less...And I've done Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Greece, etc.

Re: What kind of flyer are you?
I hate it. I just don't like feeling so confined, and knowing you CAN'T GET OUT....Plus there is so little space, it is hard to breathe...So yes, I am a white-knuckled flier. And DH always says right after takeoff, 'Well, most accidents take place during the ascent or descent!'

Being that I have a pilot's license, you would think that flying wouldn't bother me, but since 9/11 I really don't like flying commercially. I had to fly from JFK back to Virginia the day the airports opened, and I was NOT a happy camper. I've gotten better, but I still don't feel safe......

Re: What kind of flyer are you?
I'm usually fine flying, but DH is a white-knuckle guy...and he has flown a lot more than me!! He almost broke my hand from squeezing so tightly when we came home from Italy.
I will admit, though, we hit some scary turbulence on our way home from Poland and I was a nervous wreck too, especially when he started shouting things in Polish and I couldn't understand him.

I didn't know that you have a pilots license - that's so cool!
On our bumpy flight I kept telling myself, if you're in a car, the road isn't always smooth...it's the same thing, it's the same thing, it's the same thing....

I'm ok with flying. The most I've been on a plane is 5 and a half hours and it wasn't bad, no complains, I wonder if I will change my mind if it's a longer flight!

Yes, but in a car, you can stop the car, turn off the engine, open the door and put your foot on the ground!!!!

Has anyone ever told you, Peanut, that you have a remarkably comforting presence??
Oh. No? Well then where did you get the idea????

I don't fly. I'm sorry. I can't help convince anyone of the benefits of it. When are you flying again? Sorry for being remarkably uncomforting

Re: What kind of flyer are you?
I don't love to fly, but I am not really scared to, (and I have flown a LOT in my many years)
Really nothing else bothers me about it but the entire PROCESS ... and discomfort Otherwise I have no problem flying (I am weird, I actually LIKE turbulence .. it helps me fall asleep )
I guess my desire to travel the world took over my disklike of flying ... and I'm glad for that, b/c I took a lot of amazing trips
DH, however, does NOT like to fly. I'd have to bribe him or something similar in order to get him on a plane. Its a family thing - his Dad hates flying also , and he actually WORKS for the airlines!

It's just that I thought I was being so smart in convincing myself that being in a plane is a lot like being in a car (in fact people will tell you it's safer) and that a little jarring while riding in a car is not at all unsual, so why should we expect a completely smooth ride while in a plane? Well, you smashed my theory to pieces!
Actually, no, I take that back. If I hit a little bit of a bumpy road, I dont' really ever stop the car and get out. The people behind me would have a fit!!! You just keep going to get past the bumpy bit...and then everything is just fine!!
Not to worry, I've re-appeased myself!!!!

I HEART everyone's avatars ... though I do get confused at who is saying who with all these little icelandic lads running amouk!
Yes indeed, what I wouldn't have given for all those free travel vouchers when I would travel the world with my girlfriends. They never get put to good use by ANYONE in DH's family. For shame

Pretty relaxed Flyer...I sleep or read. I do get antsy after a while and like to get up and move around...
