I just moved to San Diego b/c my FI got a job out here, but I can't seem to find a job in Human Resources out here (which is what I did in NY). Does anyone have any suggestions of what other kinds of jobs I could get? I graduated from college with Math and Economics double major I'd prefer not to work weekends. I'm living off my 'wedding fund' and it's almost all gone after 2 months!
have you tried talking to a headhunter? if you look around, not all of them charge you. some get paid by the company that needs the position filled. someone like that may be able to give you a good idea.
I've spoken to 4 head hunters all of which aren't so good b/c they haven't helped me very much. Things move very slowly out here. Supposedly there aren't many positions in HR at my level out there. I've been going online everyday and don't see much. When I apply online I never hear back. I majored in Math but I don't want to go back to working in the financial industry.
can you try a temp agency? They seem to be great for getting your foot in the door with a company. It takes a while to find a job you want to commit to, so you can work temp, make money, and at the same time test the waters and see what is available. While you are doing that, you also should try to make as many contacts as possible...temping is a great way to find a permanent job I think! Good luck...keep us posted!
Are you a member of SHRM? I think you can look at the job postings on their site even if you are not a member www.shrm.org. What type of HR work did you do?
I'm not a member of SHRM, but I have been checking their website. Thanks for the tip though! I worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers for four years, first as an actuary then switched to HR. I did a lot of things as an HR associate...helping the generalists, recruiters and processing transactions in our company databases like raises, bonuses, etc.
