I have ordered my dress months ago, but i still haven't picked out a veil. I'm really not too sure if i even want one. I am into the whole 50's, rockabilly style, and I like the birdcage veils b/c its sort of vintage looking to me. I also don't want a long veil b/c i want to show off the back of my dress.
Any suggestions???

Re: What kind of veil would look okay?
My family said in order for me to not mask the back of my dress I had to go with a cathedral. It is so hard to tell for us when its on! But that's what they said and they were paying so I went with it.

Re: What kind of veil would look okay?
My dress had an elaborate back, so I went simple on the veil. It was a one layer style edged with silver thread. Elbow length in the front and waist length in the back. My mom wanted me to wear a blusher, but that wasn't for me. I also thought a cathedral veil would be tough to manage.
I love the idea of the flower and the birdcage veil, though. Have you you checked out vintagegirl's pictures?

My opnion, if you get a fingertip veil, it will end somewhere below your butt, and that edge will distract from the beautiful back of your dress. An elbow length might work better, or as in the picture, the cathedral. In any case, the edges of the veil should be simple with no lace, maybe a rolled edge or a lightly beaded edge and some scattered crystals just to give a little glimmer.
A birdcage does not really fit with the style of the dress.

Good point. If you do a short veil, it should end before the green in the train starts...
You'll have to try on a bunch of styles of headpieces to see what you like and what goes best. Although I love the birdcage, Susi is right about making sure that the veil and the dress styles are in sync.
I wonder if you could get a funky 50's brooch to wear in your hair?

I would go with a simple elbow length veil. You have a lot of detail in the back. You do not want to have the catherdral veil mask that.

Unless cathedral veils are made of lace, they don't mask the back of the dress. The tulle is quite sheer. It is all the additions of appliques and lace and heavy beading detail that would detract.

I know you said you didn't want the cathedral but I would do a long single layer sheer veil so you could still see the back.
What ever length you choose I'd go with one layer and sheer.
