What made you

Original post by Mary08

Choose your hall, how did you know? To me and my fiance the food is our #1 concern, I have not been to a lot of places and the ones I was at the food didn't necessarily stand out as GREAT. Where have you been that the food was

Re: What made you

Interesting question. I knew from the get go I wanted to be the only bride. After that I would say that the quality of food was a major concern, as was cost and decor. I saw 25 different halls to find the combination I was looking for. There was only one other hall that had the decor I wanted, but the food/price combo was completely out of whack, compared to all of the other places I looked at. (I think that hall was # 16). When I found the hall I booked I fell in love with the room, and then said a silent prayer that the menu and price would be what I wanted. FH & I had a tasting before we booked. I can honestly say that the food was beyond our expectations. Since then we have been to a few showcases and a wedding at our hall. The food at the showcases isn't as good as the actual wedding (and the tasting) was. Based on that difference, I would recommend you have a tasting prepared for that purpose rather than relying on a showcase to determine how good/bad the food is at any place you are considering.

We wanted something different - We have been going to a lot of weddings lately ~ we originally wanted it on Fire Island but realized our invite list was tooo long - the I found the yacht and we both fell in love with it...

Re: What made you

I wanted someplace small, yet elegant and a place that wasn't the typical venue to have a wedding..so I chose Three Village Inn!

Re: What made you

I was not looking for anything specific- I wanted a beautiful place with great food- I went to several places and all were nice- but none that I walked in and was WOWED by- I almost booked Giorgios-had the room on hold-they gave my date away within 24 hours (and we know them personally) I was ticked- but then realized that I was not in love with the place- my parents were-and yes it is gorgeous, but I did not get 'the feeling' However, when I walked into the Estate at East Wind, I knew it was 'the one' I love the cocktail hour rooms- I love the window in the reception room- they do have more than one wedding at a time- BUT I felt like at the Estate It was like a one wedding at a time place since it is in a different area- PLUS the food was great at the showcase and the landscaping was so pretty I envisioned beautiful pictures

Re: What made you

Well Milleridge Cottage was the first place that we saw. When we met with Kristy, everything went smoothly, but when she took us upstairs to see everything, I practically bawled when I saw the atrium where our ceremony and cocktail hour will be held in. I knew right then and there I wanted this place after having such a strong reaction the way I did. FH liked it too, but he wanted to see at least 2 other places, so I chosed 2 places that I knew he wouldn't go for in order to get Milleridge Cottage. I am so happy that we chose it. When FH and I went there in December to see it decorated for Christmas I told him that this was the best decision we made and he agreed.

Re: What made you

In my initial hall search, I was able to limit it down to 2 places based on price and the banquet manager.

We looked at four places in one day and they were all beautiful but, only two of the banquet managers felt passionate about what they were providing at their facility. The other two looked horrible comparibly.

THE METROPOLITAN!!! in Glen Cove! You must visit. It's a wonderful hall. The food is AMAZING! I can't say enough good things about the food. You can even ask vendors! For some reason I still have yet to figure out it does not seem to be a hall used often by the ladies on LIWeddings. Go and visit. Eileen is wonderful and very helpful. They have a really lovely bridal room and if you do the cermony there you can have the stairway from the bridal room be your own personal isle! It's really quite stunning. Your band gets set up BEHIND the bar (so cool!) and your cocktail hour is ABOVE the main dinning room. While there is not much of an outdoor area there is a beach literally 3 minutes away and it is just fabulous for pictures! Their pastry chef is incredibly talented and can create anything you want, just bring a picture! I've seen some of her work in person, not just a picture, and I can't explain how beautiful her work is! She is amazing!

Good Luck and if you have any questions about the Met just FM me.

We have a ton of friends who had there reception at the same hall and the golf pro there is a family friend. The food is awesome and it was a great location for us. We didn't want a hall too far from the ceremony.

Re: What made you

If you like Italian food....and a lot of it, check out Lombardi's on the sound.
We knew we wanted something with a great view...probably on the water...and good food.
Lombardi's on the sound gave us both of those things.

Re: What made you

I wanted something close to the church, good food, and within our budget. We were really limited because we had already picked a church in Queens, and didn't want guests to travel more than half an hour.

Looking back, I sort of regret my decision, but it will be a great day no matter what...

Re: What made you

I'll be honest.... it was the price. it was by far the best deal we encountered on our search and we have a HUGE family and a SMALL budget. but the fact that there is one wedding at a time, the service and food is excellent, the centerpieces and other extras are thrown in as well as adorable gazebo for pictures... those things helped assure we weren't just going the 'cheap way' out.
