I have heard people say that certain places had better food. What do you think makes it good? Taste, quantity, presentation.
For example, one known wedding caterer (wont say names cause I dont want to get flamed) I had the opportunity to eat both at a wedding and private parties..well the food was horrible, but the presentation was good. And alot of people said it was good food but meanwhile were not touching their plates.
For me it is taste and quantity is important if its a wedding..since thats the biggest gripe most people have. Presentaion is important but not the deciding factor

Re: What makes good wedding food?
Well, I have to say, I booked Leonard's because I wanted good Italian food.
We had a wedding full of Italians- many who live in Italy and flew in for our wedding.
They all RAVED about the food!

Re: What makes good wedding food?
To me originialety is good.
But if you have something really creative & it is bland or dry or the tatses dont' go together, that isn't good. So I'd rahter have basic food that is well prepared, but if it is well prepared & a little different, that really makes it for me.
Presentation- eh, is ok. But one of favorite foods is Pad See Ew ( sp?) & basically tha's just a bunch of noodles dumped in a bowl.
For my wedding, we couldn't decide between 2 appetizers so we went with the prettier one.
Same with the desserts, but that's only because everything else was equal.
ETA: quantity is important to a point. I hate when people LOVE a restaurant because portions are huge. but then again, I hatewhen peopel love trendy resaurtaunts that serve you half a pepper with elabore writing & designs drawn in baslamic vinegar around the plate for $25.

FRESHNESS! FRESHNESS! FRESHNESS!
I can always tell when something has been sitting in the kitchen or the fridge or the freezer for more than a couple of days. Alot of caterers do this because of the volume and speed they need to work at-food is often prepared in stages.
Vegetables, fish, and meat should always be extremely fresh (and if possible) locally grown, and caught for a formal occasion.
sorry, my FI calls me 'Fresh-obsessed'

I agree with fresh...there is nothing like it. Also, consistency of the food meaning, not over salted, undercooked or hiding in sauces to cover up sub-par quality.

Re: What makes good wedding food?
taste and presentation as quantity is irrelevant if the food stinks i think americans in general are stuck in the 'bigger is better' mentality and subsequently gorge themselves. the 'super size' culture has gotten out of control and so much food goes to waste...
we picked our venue because of the food and service. we were a little worried about portion sizes however the staff reassured us that no one will go home hungry, and if more food is requested they will comply.
freshness is totally key and a given for me...
taste is also relative. what certain people like others may not, but that is why we have selections for the main course!

For me it is freshness and taste. Not bland or too salty. Quantity means nothing to me. Sometimes I feel halls go for quantity, but quality really suffers.

Re: What makes good wedding food?
Freshness and quality of ingredients used as well as taste. Presentation and quantity would be secondary. Then there are the little things... like if you get filet mignon, you get one whole piece and not slices, vegetable and starch are matched to the entree and are not the same for all of them, food is properly cooked and served hot, etc.

Re: What makes good wedding food?
I like it to taste fresh and different. Presentation is not a big deal. When I was looking for a place I needed to have large quantities and and soem good Italian chocies. To my big Italian family it's all about gigantic quantinties and making it look like a spectacle. Oh well.

Presentation is alright....but more important, the freshness and the taste definately. A good piece of meet cooked exactly how you want it or a fabulous pasta dish...........Mmmmmmmm!

Re: What makes good wedding food?
freshness and taste are a lot more important than presentation. I prefer when they bring out plates with the food on them to when they come around with the big tray and put on the meat, then the veggies, etc. That skeeves me out for some reason.
I like when there is a good veggie option ! ;_)

Re: What makes good wedding food?
To me, yes presentation has something to do with it, but I will say that I HATE when food is drowned in sauces. It's like they are trying to disguise the real taste of the food.
I went to a wedding at a well known Italian catering hall a few months ago where 'the cocktail hour is to die for and the food is amazing'. Note, cocktail hour was a few stations and about 16 chafing dishes filled with foods drowned in sauce. Dinner was the same. I couldn't even tell I was eating shrimp it was so bathed in seasoning and sauces.

Marymoon! I was thinkinking of you. Our default veggie item is a wrap, but they gave me the option to ask any known vegetatians their preference & they can choose now from the list they use for veggie weddings & they sounded yummy! All 3 picked the portebllo mushroom with polotena & gorgonzola.

Re: What makes good wedding food?
Sounds good, tourist. If it's an evening wedding the wrap sounds a little more like a lunch to me. The mushroom sounds good, but keep in mind gorgonzola is a very umm dragrant cheese and not eveyone likes it. See if they cna request it without the cheese, esp since there may be vegans!

Re: What makes good wedding food?
I'd say quality in both the freshness and how it was cooked. I hate overcooked and dry chicken and fish, I hate veggies that were overcooked or frozen. I'd take quality over quantity any day!
ETA: the cocktail hour is where I get my quantity

Taste and presentation. Also, I think it has to do with personal preference of how the food is prepared.
