Re: what? NO GIFT??
We had 2 people not give any gifts- not even an empty card. 1 I was a BM for when I was 18 and just moving out of my parent's house and struggling to live on my own and I still gave $300.
I said nothing. I'll never say anything, but the thank you card will definitely be a short and sweet 'Thank for celebrating with us.'

Re: what? NO GIFT??
the proper etiquette is to say and do nothing. while giving a gift seems like a no-brainer, guests are not technically required to bring one.
we had 5 no-gifters, 1 being the head of DH's hedge fund. it totally sux, but it is what it is. i've just learned to accept and move past. at least it's 5 less TY cards i have to write.

Re: what? NO GIFT??
I had two bridesmaids (with guests) and a brother (with a bitchy guest) and 2 cousins who did not gift (not even a card from any of them). We still thanked them but im still pissed. Even when DH and I both did not have jobs and were living on pennies we would always give a large gift. These 5 non-gifters all have great jobs, had no excuses and if they were having trouble they should not have brought guests. Is a 99 cent card you can pick up at any supermarket, target, cvs, pharmacy or hallmark so hard? I'm no longer over-gifting like I used to and if I ever attend any of those 5 weddings, they will not be getting a nice gift from me.

Re: what? NO GIFT??
one of them i am NOT surprised because they travelled far and i know they don't have much. the other i was truly surprised as it is a friend i see/talk to all the time. Is it rude to say 'i hope I didn't lose your gift in all the shuffling around' or just see if she says something when we talk next. It is totally out of character for her. I guess its not too late, gifts could still be int he mail...
Do you still send a TY note for those who do not send gifts?

Re: what? NO GIFT??
I had about 9 no-gifters. I didn't even mention it, I think that would be in poor taste honestly. It did bug me that they didnt even spring $1.99 for a card, but whatever. I still sent them a Thank You card anyway.

Re: what? NO GIFT??
i agree. its so frustrating. its not about the gift just the fact like yous aid that they couldn't even send a card!! I dont' care about the money..its just poor ettiquite to not even acknowlege that you are happy to be part of hte wedding day.
I am hoping they bring it up themselves....
just found out that one of our no shows just called DH and apologized AND gave a gift. Thought that was great!

I would never mention it. And you're right- *technically* guests have up to a year to give a gift. And I'd still send a TY card. Be the bigger person.

Re: what? NO GIFT??
proper ettiquete says you never bring it up ....
but i think you should if you're close with those people. You can say something like 'hey, i looked through the cards we got and didn't see yours - just wanted to make sure it's not lost or whatnot'
otherwise, you could just write a thank you card that just says 'thanks for coming' and hope they get the hint

Re: what? NO GIFT??
FH told me that guests technically have a year from the wedding to send a gift. I had no idea about this. They may still send something after!
