What phone company do you use for your home phone?
FH is moving into our apartment this week and we are shopping around for a good phone company, all we are looking for is unlimited local and regional calling, no long distance required (I usually use my cell phone for that). Anyone have any suggestions? We would like to keep the price under $50 a month if possible. Thanks.

I use Verizon and I don't even have unlimited local & regional and it costs about $55 a month (not inc. long distance). I would love to find a cheaper plan!!

MCI has a good deal. My friend has unlimited local calls and all the ammenities like caller id, 3-way, etc. for $50/55.

Re: What phone company do you use for your home phone?
We're in Western Suffolk but have family ranging all the way from Queens, out to Manorville, so we went with an ATT plan that gave us unlimited calls in that whole area - it even goes up to Westchester.ATT Expanded Service $24.95
FCC Line Charge $6.00
$0.57 in a couple of misc. small charges
$2.09 for unlisted number
Total - $33.62
Add another $7.71 in taxes and surcharges and such, plus another $0.76 for a 'Universal Connectivity Charge' (which I'm going to call about, because they charge us $0.35 for the same thing elsewhere on the bill!)
All in all, not a bad deal for the coverage we get. The drawback is that Verizon owns the lines, and controls the ATT hookups, so they make sure that it's hard to get ATT hooked up. It took us 4 weeks and 5 technicians to get an active line. Hubby's cousin had problems with them too. But once you're hooked up, it works fine.

I use MCI and have a certain amount of Long distance minutes included and unlimited for the local area. It's about $45 a month but they really get you with taxes and surcharges. This month those charges alone were close to $17!! What a rip off!

Verizon. I switched to MCI once and it was a nightmare. Not only did they hit me with a ridiculous bill when I hardly used the phone but I cancelled a month later and fought with them over it for about 6 months. They kept charging me when I had another phone company. I would NEVER use MCI again! It was a HORRIBLE experience.

My FI and I don't have a land line. We just use our cell phones since we are paying money a lot of minutes (350 daytime minutes and 2150 nights and weekend minutes). We get our Internet through cable.

We hooked up through Verizon only because they own the lines, so it made life easier for us. We are switching to AT&T as soon as the dust settles. The plan that we have now with Verizon goes for $56 - the same exact plan with AT&T goes for about $25.

Re: What phone company do you use for your home phone?
I use MCI. Definitely not the greatest. Since I don't do long distance calls I have a 100 call per month plan unlimited time on each call for $14.95. Add on call waiting, and all those stupid taxes and surcharges, my bill is usally around $29. How about that? I pay the same amount on all those stupid taxes and such as I do for the plan!!!
This plan works for me though.
FH uses ATT who I would not recommend AT ALL!!! They are the worst in service, taking payments, billing. THE PITS!! Vicki that is one of the problems FH was having. It took him over a month to get his phone connected. Then they had NERVe to charge him for calls he didn't make
Glad someone brought this up here since next year we will have to look for a provider on our own.
