One of my favorite gifts was a cake cutting/server set, gift certificates to Macy's, William Sonoma, Bed Bath and Beyond and money. Does your sisiter have any idea of places she might be registering in the near future? Giving an amount is a very personal thing and depends on how close you are to the couple. Best of luck!

I always give crystal gifts for engagements (Lenox bowls, waterford flutes, etc.)

i got so many of these at our engagement party - i don't know what to do with them
gifts i would recomend - a couples massage to relax bride and groom, a good planner, subcription to martha stewart weddings, gift certificate to a store, money

Hallmark has a cute picture frame that says 'we're engaged' and has a lil ring on it. She could put the couple's pic in it. If that's not enough then add $$ to it, some feel $$ alone is too impersonal altho that's what they really need.

they will get a lot of picture frames IMO- I am a big picture person and have frames everywhere but how many can one person/couple use??? I have not been to many enag. parties but i have given $$$ or something off of registry- but if they dont have one you cant go wrong with a gift certificate or i like the idea someone had above about the couples massage/spa day very nice idea and they will put it to use near wedding

Maybe she can give them $$...then buy a wedding planning book....and gather business cards and info on different vendors in the area, and add them to the book, and include a few wedding mags.
Its not an overally expensive gift...but it does take time and thought
