What's the deal with MOB/MOG dresses?

So a couple of months ago, after my dress was settled we starting thinking about MOB/MOG dresses...

Originally I thought they should coordinate with the bridal party-- who are wearing like a sage green.

Then I thought, another accent color I am using is chocolate brown-- my mom really only likes to wear black-- as does FMIL- so, I thought this would be a good compromise.

Ok- so my mom is looking at brown dresses-- but, now that I am thinking of it-- what should the MOG wear? Does it even matter??

Help please..

Re: What's the deal with MOB/MOG dresses?

I wouldn't worry about them coordinating with the BP b/c they won't be in pictures with them.

Normally the MOB chooses what she wants, then the MOG gets second choice. As long as the colors don't completely clash with your theme, I wouldn't worry about it. Some colors I think are nice and would be okay with sage: navy, pale yellow, purple (any shade), pink, brown, blue...

Re: What's the deal with MOB/MOG dresses?

ok-- Originally I was thinking that they would coordinate.. What if they are in like the same shade?? My FMIL is like waiting my word on this-- she has not even shopped around for dresses at all yet.. meanwhile, my mom started looking and narrowed down some choices.. So I feel like I need to handhold FMIL..

Re: What's the deal with MOB/MOG dresses?

I've honestly never understood why the mothers have to coordinate with each other, or with the BP. The mothers aren't in pics with the BP, and are in maybe one picture together. I just want them both to be in something they like.

so are they supposed to coordinate?? I don't really care-- just want pics to come out looking nice-- and also for them to look more 'special' than another wedidng guest.

I think most people want them to coordinate. I personally don't think it's necessary. I'm sure they will be fancier than other guests, so they'll stand out that way. But I think I'm in the vast minority in my opinion!

My feeling is they should at least coordinate, not necessarily match. Unfortunately for me, that wont be the case with my FMIL. Knowing that the BM's dresses are claret, and my mom's dress is champagne with black overlay, she (deliberately in my opinion) picked a 'mint green' dress. I haven't seen it and I know colors are subjective depending on who describes it, but come on! She's going to stand out like a sore thumb. Good luck with your MIL, I hope you have better luck

I would tell her to look for any shade of brown, or another earth tone. Anywhere from chocolate to champagne would look nice with the girls sage color and coordinate with your mom. JMO

Re: What's the deal with MOB/MOG dresses?

I'm thinking back to the MOB and MOG I've seen in weddings over the years and usually they don't match. But, if you want them to, then that is fine too.

My mom wore dark plum, MIL work gold...

My best friend's mom wore navy, MOG wore pale yellow

Went to a wedding two weeks ago, MOB wore cream, MOG wore dark gold

Went to a wedding in Feb, MOB wore dark purple, MOG wore silver....
