Definitely Definitely Definitely Massapequa. And make sure that they dont trick you cuz there are a lot of parts of Massapequa that are Amityville SD and will still try and pass it off as Massapequa.

Amityville Horror,..Need I say more! LOL You definitely want school district #23 ONLY!!! Make sure because one house we looked at, the realtor swore it was #23 and it was Amity schools - I looked it up online myself and then called them out and b&^%^# to them that they should get their facts straight...but she knew that I knew she lied!

hate to start any drama, but i have to say my peace

It is one thing to say that a district is reportedly better based on test scores and/or statistics

I think it is insulting to make comments about the area being 'bad' or not wanting to walk alone
Im sure there are people that live there that may be on this sight and I find it quite insulting; if not racist

There, I said it - I didnt win 'the award' for nothing

very true but when it is a proven fact that there is much more crime, vandelism etc. and that the schools are rated MUCH lower, teachers are lacking qualifications (i know 2 teachers in amityville HS, one broke up a fight in which a female student stabbed another with a knife) etc. you can make these generalizations. I live close to both areas, know families in both areas, my mom worked for an after school program in amityville. IMHO it is NOT a generalization but fact!

but you are corrent, everyone has a right to their own opinion!!

true about the stats
but i just meant that people on the boards may live there

I agree with you. I think word choice is very important here.

Annndd....there are parts of Amityville that are quite wealthy, so you can't really say the town itself is bad, but about half the town sends their children to private schools. It is definitly one of the tougher school districts.
One more thing...people have gotten stabbed in tiny schools like Hauppauge, so let's not get crazy with all that stuff.

and to top it off, school shootings happen in WHITE schools; not minority areas

You are right I should have been a little clearer because I definately didn't mean to offend anyone how might live there. Where my office is located it really isn't safe -- it is a little more industrial (as more industrial areas aren't the greatest) but even the girls I work with that live here agree with me.

It does happen everywhere in every neighborhood definatley not saying it doesn't.

I actually meant which school district gives a better education. I teach in Staten Island at a very mixed school. Most of my students are black or hispanic and that doesn't bother me or anyone one bit. Most of these students are part of the NCLB program.

Our school was the only elementary school on Staten Island that was given an A rating. We are rated #1 in our district. Race has nothing to do with it.

agreed
i think can be offensive though when people say 'Yuck, NO way, dont go there at night, etc.'

I know what you mean. My realtor keeps telling me that some neighborhoods 'change' in different parts and it's driving me nuts. I try to ignore these comments.

definitely Massapequa...

if you live in Massapequa you can actually go to

Massapequa..
Plainedge..
Farmingdale..
Amityville..

You always want to be in the Massapequa School District. Next Plainedge.. Next Farmingdale.. Amityville last..

no offense to anyone by the way
