I have a full time job and a part time job on the weekends. I work 7 days a week and its hard to come by a day off. When I've needed a personal day at my part time job, the other girl that works there full time will take my hours. She just called me and asked if I could work this monday for her. The problem is, it is my only day off since mother's day and my next day off will be the 4th of july. My manager wants full coverage for the day, so its not like I could just work a half day. What should I do?

That's a toughie. I'd say if you don't work this weekend, then you owe it to this girl to ask around to see if anyone else can cover. Only because she covers for you. If it wasn't for that, then I would tell you to take off and not look back.

Does she work a lot for you? Does she have the weekends off? Or 2 days a week?

I do have to work this weekend at my part time job. My only day off is monday only because I have off from my full time job. But I feel guilty that this girl always covers for me.

So far, out of the whole year, she's covered 3 days for me. She works there full time on the weekdays. She has the weeekends off.

So tell her you have to work at your full time job. Sorry, lying isn't the best answer. Personally, I would not work. I would justify it by saying to myself that I didn't MAKE her work for me all those times But I guess I'm just a b!tch!

Tell her you already made plans. Hell, make plans JUST so it's not a lie!

Honestly, I'd work for her and maybe take a day off at your fulltime job to give yourself a break. If not, just be prepared for her to not being agreeable to cover for you anymore...I probably wouldn't.

I think you shouldn't work. She already has Sat and Sun off, just politely say if you can in future for her you will, but this is your only day off.

Be careful with lying since Monday is the holiday. I think what some one posted about saying not this time but maybe another time would be the best response...

I think you should take the day off. You need a break every once in awhile. Don't feel guilty. She's off the rest of the weekend, right? I would say you had made other plans already (a BBQ or something.)

I want to say cover for her b/c she's covered for you but -- she already has 2 days and is looking for a 3 day weekend while you haven't had a day off in two weeks. Kind of unfair, IMO. She wants to extend her weekend and you're just trying to get ONE day off.
I would say sorry but you already made plans for your only day off in weeks but that you'll owe her one and will work for her definitely the next time she needs it (as long as it's not the 4th of July!)

This is EXACTLY my point of view. But I've decided to take the high road on this one and work for her, but to let her know that under no circumstances will I be availabe on the 4th of july. I get two days off that weekend, so I dont want to ruin that.
