Hi everyone...I am very new to this site as well as being newly engaged. Can anyone lead me towards the right direction in getting my wedding plans started? I am doing most of the planning on my own and can use any suggestions. I've recently been looking online as to where to begin...so any advice would help.

congrats and welcome!!! first thing to do is pick a few dates that you'd like to get married and then call up halls to see if they are available and make appts to see them.

Welcome and congratulations!
My first suggestion would be to get together a budget and a guest list. Once you know about how much you can spend and how many people are going to come then you can start looking at ceremony and reception locations.

I figured out what time of year I wanted to get married, put together a preliminary guest list, and went to visit some halls that fit the specs I was looking for.
I then went to my church and found out if it was available on the same date (I hadn't booked the hall officially yet) and then booked both on the same day.
The rest all sort of fell into place!

Look under 'My Wedding' and then 'Wedding Timeline'. That should help get you get started and it's a good guide for everything you may need to do while planning your wedding. HTH!!

Wow girls thanx for the warm welcomes.
I think my fiance and I are looking into summer of next year (still up in the air) also I would really like to have my wedding at the Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens...anyone know anything about that place?
I will def. check out this site in more detail for planning this wedding to be

Congratulations!!! Start with your guest list, possible dates. Then you can start looking at halls. You need to give them a round about # of guests. Good luck and happy planning!

congrats and welcome We jumped right into planning and booked our hall (once we figured out a few dates we wanted), then went to the church (they frown on booking the hall first, so you may want to do it in the opposite order. This site will be a big help for you

1st of all welcome!!! 2nd.. have u checkout anything about the Palm house yet? I wanted to do my wedding reception there but they wanted and exraordinary amount of money. It is a beautiful place but when ua re looking at 300 people and 300 + dollars a plate Plus a large site fee...well it just was not worth it. If it is something that fits into ur budget then go for it i have heard they do great work.

Congrats!!!!!! First I would say start getting a budget and surfing for ideas of what you'd like to have. Start also getting together a guest list so you know how many people (more or less) you'd like to have.
Many of the other things will just come to you. And feel free to ask we're all here to help.

Hi Welcome and Congratulations
The first thing we did was make a list of how many people approximately and then when we wanted to have it...then start looking at churches (if you want one) & reception spots....

I agree. Picking dates first is definitly a great way to start. If you are getting married at a church I would include this w/ your RH the things to look into 1st. Good Luck and happy posting

#1: Decide when ...then you must MUST MUST book your hall (&church of course)....they book up so fast! And you want to be able to find the place of your dreams!!!

DO A GUEST LIST!!!! this determines all the prices for everything!.....and negotiating power
then set a date or lat least be flexible with it for negotiating prices with the reception hall....book your hall and church...everything can wait!

Ok so i'm def. brainstorming on approx. how many ppl i'd like at our wedding. The guest list will be compiled this weekend (crossing fingers). Still researching reception areas...damn the palm house is so what I want. Anyways, i'll have to check into that as well as any other alternatives.
