I ordered my gown in August and it came in last week- My wedding's not til June and the shop won't let me keep my dress there. What should I do with it? Should I keep it at home or will it turn yellow or get ruined somehow?

Why won't the shop store your gown? If you bought it there they should store it for you until alterations.
But, there are places that store, Madam Paulette's does it. I think there is a recent post on this...
You can also do a self store by wrapping it up in white acid free paper, and keeping it in a dry closet.

I ordered it from the wedding center in commack and they said they do not hold dresses. I also have to pick up the dress within 30 days. I'm not having it altered there, but even if I was I would have to pick it up, then bring it back for alterations.

you can keep it at home. Keep it in the bag they provide it in, and then throw black garbage bags over it to keep all light out.
If you can lay it flat somewhere (like under your bed) thats good too.
My sister has kept a wedding gown like this for the last 6 years and its still perfect (she never wore the gown as her wedding was cancelled)
It should be fine until you're ready for alterations and pressing..

Why won't they store it? I ordered mine in june and it should be in any day now...whe I ordered it, I made them write in contract that they will store it until the day of the wedding.....Take a look at your contract, see what it says about something in the lines of 'not responsible for dresses not picked up 30 days after wedding date.'. Maybe you can find a loophole, if they won't agree to hold it for you.
My mom already got her dress for next sept, adn they told her to store it in a dry closet wrapped in a clean white sheet.

wrap your dress completely in a white sheet or 2 if necessary, then put it in the garment bag they gave u leaving it unzipped about 5 inches( the dress needs to breath!). Then hang it in a place that does not suffer from extreme temperature changes also making sure that it is not crowded. Do not put it in the attic or basement. A empty closet is your best bet. It needs its space. Follow these directions and you'll be fine. I also have to store my dress!

I wrapped my dress in a clean white sheet and then in the bag it came in and left it hanging on the front of my closet door (so it wouldn't get smashed in my closet) for over a year (I also bought from Commack Wedding Center and it only took 5 weeks! for the dress to come in). It was fine. The dress looked just as wonderful on my wedding day as when I picked it up (colorwise).
Do NOT get your dress altered there (I know you said you weren't going to, but don't change your mind on this). The alterations dept leaves much to be desired.
